The ratio of open swimming space to rock work also factors in. Amount of water flow, and obviously other tankmates play a factor too. A hard 8ft vs 6ft rule is silly without the proper context
I'm going to add the candy striped hog fish that I have in quarantine, and that's it. No more fish for my 240. I never pack my tanks with a lot of fish..
I agree, considering the OP's stock, I think one emp as a center piece will be great. As someone that does actually fill his tank with lots of fish (smaller fish, but lots nonetheless) I've avoided large aggressive angels like the emp, even though a have a 8' 240g, and have always wanted one! :hammer: So IMO tank size, tank mates, and even aquascaping, as mentioned above, are all factors to consider...
I don't want to get too far off track, but is there a suggested minimum diameter cylindrical tank size? Something like 4-5ft diameter? I only ask since I'm saving room for a SW pond and looking to keep a pair of emperors in the "pond".

I would try to go 6-10' diameter.
I've seen large fish placed in large cubes 4'x4' and IMO they look strange swimming in circles all the time. The fish may be healthy but the swimming behavior and look is not appealing to me when I compare it to my 8' tank.
He also has the nice 4-5 inch fully changed ones for 99 bucks ,,which is the one i got a few months ago and its beautiful ..Can't find a better price than that anywhere
I got mine from NYA a few years ago and about 3-4" and was just begining to change. Now hes around 8-9" and looks awesome! Im looking to upgrade to an 8' tank in two years.
