encrusting montipora growth

Looking at getting encrusting montipora for my nano tank. I'm concerned about growth/overgrowth/boring growth. Basically, I want to see growth but don't want it growing like a weed.

I'm sure growth depends on tank conditions but is there some general info anyone keeping these can offer?

Montipora mollis aka "purple haze", good growth, but not super fast like a cap.

Yes. I made encrusting montipora islands. One I did not and now it becoming a problem, just grew right over an acro and now a birdsnest. Also taking up more rockspace than I would like.
