end of line product

I thought all the upgrades were done by certified sellers to allieviate any problems with installs?

I was hoping to upgrade to a P3 this winter but don't think it'll be before October.... So I'll end up being out of luck with my "future proof" Profilux?

Not something I really expected from GHL.

We are unique having a service center however GHL work on a global policy basis, they cant have one rule for one and one for another.

Basically if you want to upgrade do it while we still have stock, I think 7 weeks notice is quite enough time for everyone to upgrade. If we get a flood of orders for the upgrade (doubtful) between now and then we will order more.

As Plus II sales are now very minimal and I mean 1 every few months we will likely cease the line anyway so there is no question about "how do I upgrade"

I'm having exactly the same problem here, I came from Indonesia, but I purchased my profilux in singapore (company:ReefDepot pty) last year.

Here's my problem, last week I ordered my profilux II ex plus, to get upgraded to profilux 3ex, I already send the item to GHL authorized dealer in indonesia (company: Reef Indonesia), but today I got my profilux returned undone, with a notice that they wont be able to upgrade it because I purchased my profilux in singapore and I must upgrade it in singapore. They told me its GHL policy, and they dont want to take any responsibility in case there's a failure in my upgrade, which means they had to send the profilux back to germany (in fact that I already made my booking for almost a month earlier).

Okay so I contacted GHL's singapore dealer, and asking them whether they could upgrade my profilux? the answer that I got "I'm sorry unfortunately we wont be able to upgrade your profilux for now on, as we're having some problem with GHL currently, and we wont be able to do anything until we discuss the matter further with GHL."

When I asked them will they carry any GHL product in the future, they said unsure and not in capacity to answer right now.

So basically now I'm LOST!
having no idea how to upgrade my profilux in the future, can anyone explain me what's happening? honestly the idea why I decided to purchased profilux is that I will always be able to upgrade/expand it as time goes, and now I'm stuck with my profilux IIex.

Any suggestion or explanation from GHL?

note: I'm sorry for writing long letter, and I don't mean to insult or damage any party/company.

Hi njadik,

this is really a weird story and should never happen!

I wonder what they meant with "They told me its GHL policy" - what is our policy?

The only policy we have is that only authorized retailers and distributors are allowed to do the update, this has nothing to do with where the product has been bought in the first place! We recognized that some of them just didn`t want to do the update anymore because previous attempts failed! Additionally, I find the statement from the Singapore retailer very unusual, I really would like who this was, maybe you can send me a PM. This is nothing for a public forum.

This case shows us again that it was right to stop selling the upgrade kit - it was a good idea first, but the trouble in some cases ruined it completely.

I am very sorry you have this problem with Indonesia and Singapore partners from us, I am sure consequences will follow. Unfortunately I am not able to help you directly, we used to rely on our partners. Maybe a mistake sometimes.

Michael, this has no effect to the standard ex kit as well that can be added to the P3 at anytime, correct?

Mike

Nope this is Plus II to P3 upgrade only this does not effect the EX upgrade at all and is still very much in active service ;)

I chose the GHL line because of the company approach to upgrade-ability and expansion. I'm now stuck between upgrading to a system that I don't need or holding on to an obsolete piece of equipment that will be discontinued. It's a shame that this is the choice GHL has chosen as I feel that a lot of loyal customers chose this brand/company because of the options it provides.

I will consider the P3 upgrade, but how long will I be without a controller if I am to send in my unit? The main purpose it serves is controlling my Tunzes, Ecotech, lights, topoff, and dosing. My lights I can control with timers, my Tunzes I'll likely run at full throttle, and my Ecotech I still have a stock controller for, but my topoff and dosing will need to be done manually until the upgrade is complete, so I wanted to get a better idea of what kind of timelines to expect.

All depends on how fast the service center receives the controller. the turn around time is 24 hours and back out the door, fully configured, cleaned and with the latest firmware loaded.

I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately I just spent a ton of cash swapping to LED lighting thinking I could just do the upgrade this winter to my PII, and then I see this thread.... Makes me wish I would've gone the other direction, but now I'm kinda stuck.

It sucks too since I know Michael has always bent over backwards trying to help, and went above and beyond trying to find my EVG cards and PLM-4L, but now I find out I have a month to try to come up with $375 or else I'm stuck with an old PII that I could likely never sell since it can't get upgraded later.

Michael, how long do you think your current stock will last realistically ???

I'm going to be out of town on business the first two weeks of October and don't want to come home from the trip and be left in the cold. There's just no way I could leave my tank without a controller while I'm away, and I honestly won't have a spare $375 laying around until the second week of October anyway. Also, if I send the PLM-4L I just bought along with the PII could that all be installed at the same time ???

I really hope my best option isn't going to sell the PII now while someone else can upgrade it and look elsewhere for a controller. :(

As I said before plenty of notice is being given, and I will honour anyone that does not wish to upgrade now the option to hold a kit on layaway for 6 months fully refundable deposit of 25% the kit value.

I have just done a check - the amount of people that have upgraded in the last 3 months is a massive total of 4 !!

This is by far not a big issue, we sell a Plus II maybe a month but boat loads of P3, the people that still have not upgraded their controller either do not wish to at all or are posting here, so I think my 6 month option on deposit based on the so minimal numbers for the massive NA market is fair (I hope)

Just a thought,
Any chance GHL or the distributor would ship the customer, who's doing the upgrade, a new controller and hold the charge on his/her credit card until the service is done and the "loaner" unit is returned?
Since there's no service center in the US, shipment will have to ship our of the country and sometime get stuck in custom(even shipping to Canada). I wouldn't know what to do without my controller even for a day.

that can be done but who paya for 4x shipping costs? These are some of the reasons why the upgrade has been dropped, it became impracticle

But it's such a shame to drop the highest selling point of the product to many.
There's no good way of doing this. But I would rather pay for the shipping and have my set up uninterrupted if I have to upgrade. Buy then again, At that point, the upgrade cost and shipping might exceed buying a whole new controller.

I do understand, based on the very small sales of the Plus II now with the drop in price of the P3 I cant imagine this being a major issue after we have looked after all current owners of plus II's so they still have access to the upgrade.

I doubt many plus II owners are now not aware of the discontinuation and we have put in place enough upgrades to cater for this.

But to put this in complete percpective - I announced this over a week ago and so did GHL globally, since then NOT ONE upgrade kit has been sold or requested. NOT ONE.

I fully understand everyones here concern on this thread who have not upgraded yet and we will put in place a stock holding to cater for you based on a held deposit, but I am very sure this will not become a major issue. Our duty is to you the existing clients of Plus II's to serve you. We have done this now, all bases covered, all angles aligned, all virgins......... damn there goes my mind again!
