Engineer Goby: Can you just have one?

I was researching engineer gobies. The general advice seems to be they are social animals and more than one is required.

Has anyone had success keeping just one?

had one for years until it was killed in a tank upgrade.. very easy to keep just one

Agreed. I used to work at a LFS and we kept them solo all the time when others were sold off. Granted, they do look really cool in groups!

Thanks for the replies. Just wanted to make sure one is okay by itself. I will give it a shot!

As juvies, they certainly are quite social. As adults, not so much. They're fairly territorial.

One will do fine on its own. You've probably already discovered this in your research, but they are excellent excavators - do make sure your rockwork is VERY secure. They like a fairly deep sandbed. Adults are usually extremely reclusive; they rarely leave their burrow.
