engineer goby

He'd likely have to disassemble the tank to get it... Mine hid all the time (unless there was food) and had a network of tunnels under the rocks.

Theres one at PetLand in the boro that looks like an adult (hes probably 8" to 10" long) for $55... or there was yesterday, anyway. May want to give them a call.

I'm not too big on petland for many reasons. I use to not really have a problem with them. I've gotten peppermint shrimp from them awhile back that was cheap, $5 and still alive and ate all the aips in my tank (the ones I can see anyway). That's the only good I got from them. I'm usually not the one to bash, but everytime I go in there, their fish always look bad. And 2 times I wanted to buy somethin', they wouldn't sale me. I wanted a cleaner shrimp, but they wouldn't sale it to me because it was bein' used to cure their fish of their deseases........ Second time they had some nice zoas, 2 rocks. They wouldn't sale me those cause they wanted to let them grow more. The last time I went in, both rocks that originally had maybe 30 polyps looked like the polyps was melting off or somethin'. Glad I didn't get them I guess. And when I asked about the zoa rocks, the guy was like umm, yea 69.99, those are the mushrooms I think. I had to show him what the mushrooms are, then he got the manager cause he said he didn't know a thing about saltwater. Then there was a time when the worker told this lady who was clueless about saltwater (just wanted to get her kids some "nemos") to go home and add the bio-spira and her tank would be instantly cycle. I don't know, I won't even step foot in that store anymore. They had a ball python that needed some help shedding, guess cause it didnt have a large water bowl and humidity was low. I even offered to help, just told them to fill a litter box with some water and let the snake soak and help it shed. They said it would be fine. The next time I went in, it's skin was all messed up from the bad shed. Sorry for goin' off topic but just thought I'd give my opinion on Petland...

I have to say that I've had a good experience with them overall.

There are somethings I wouldn't buy there, but probably especially corals. I may buy a scissor tail goby from them soon, though. :)

I do have to agree on the weirdness... they're odd about things a lot of times. It doesn't make much sense.

I'm not sure if you're talking about the one in Murfreesboro or not, but I've come to know some of the guys who work there who seem pretty cool and know a decent bit about what they're doing. I also have to say that I had good luck with bio-spira in my freshwater tank... but they didn't tell me it would be instantly cycled... although I'm sure it helped as I added 4 fish and never had a problem. :)

Its always a crapshoot, though, anywhere you go.

I think my main problem with petland is the ball python issue overall. There was no need to let it sit in a dry cage like they did. I mean, when I went in a couple weeks later, it's skin was horrible and I believe it was permanent damage. I can't imagine anyone bought it. But, that brings me to another thing I heard about stores like that. I have no idea if this is true or not but I "heard" the dogs they don't sale, they will put to sleep and use it as a tax right off or somethin' like that. That's what I heard, could be false. I don't know, and sorry again, for turnin' this into a "petland is bad" thread. Good luck on findin' the engineer goby!

Steve

Yep... and they're looking to expand their saltwater soon as they sell out of fish just about as soon as they get them in! For better or worse... ;)

Brandon

yea, when I was in there awhile back, they was talkin' about turnin' the whole wall (the side where all the african cichlids are) to all saltwater. I'm sure they get good business because they are pretty much the only store that sales SW fish in the Boro. Except for the Jungle. I think I heard Petco is comin' to M'boro too.

Steve

Yeah, they are... and the Jungle seems a bit expensive... I need to go back, its been a while since I've been there.

Yeah, PetCo is coming... for better or worse... they're coming in the new plaza at Medical Center Pkwy.

Hey Ck did you ever find an engineer goby?
If not I finally caught mine.....hes a tunnel makin fool....only had to disassemble half the tank to get him.....he's about 12 to 14 inches long.
I'll try to get a pic up if you are interested.
