Love having your hands wet? Enjoy working hard for not near enough money? Don't mind working with freshwater fish and fish people? Want to order from lists of thousands of fish every week, with a couple thousand dollors to spend every week? My Petco is seeking a knowledgable fish person, for a full time position. We are seeking a person to be able to manage the fresh and marine departments, ordering, mantaining hundreds of fish, as well as the products to keep them.
Too good to be true you ask, now for the bad news, the position starts at a horribly low wage. Petco does have a Companion Animal Specialist positition which one cannot be hired into. After 60 days of hire and initial training on Petco policies and procedures as well as self study books (Included are, the nitrogen cycle, general fish knowledge etc.) passing a 100 question test.
After passing the 100 question test, finally, (most of you could pass the 100 question test in one try, which is why I am looking here) the hourly wage can go from $9.25 to 12.05 per hour.
Petco also offers a 20% discount on all fish and products, insurance, paid time off, flexible schedule and a fish nerd for a boss.
We have part time positions open often/now and many of the same duties can be performed by part time people, but the pay is low at the standard $8.00 hour to start.
Please let me know if you have any questions, I would enjoy speaking with anyone who would like to make a difference, Not only to customers like yourself but in the image of at least our Petco.
I am the GM of the Petco at 120th and Sheridan Blvd. in Broomfield, Colorado.
Best regards,
Chris Kelln

Chris, I'd like to congratulate you on an ad well written. I think you'll find some takers on here. As I've said before, If Petco or Petsmart ever get serious about this part of the hobby, the local LFS's better shape up!!!

Wow, Thanks Aspen.
We are only as good as the people representing us, I am constantly frustrated by the lack of knowledge and information, OR WORSE missinformation at Both of the big market chain stores.
I did speak with one gal from here today and hope she is a good fit for us as well as us for her.
I know if I can find someone who is passionate about sharing the hobby with others, we can change our reputation, at least at our store.

Thanks again for your kind words,
Chris

Im glad to see that a GM really cares. I wish it worked out better for me. Our Regional animal controller was a twit. He didnt like me becuase I would quarantine sick animals, and used medications he had a hard time pronouncing. Methylene Blue was banned from our store becasue he didnt understand that it calmed the goldfish down enough so that they could live. He actually told me it was ok to sell animals if they were "kinda" sick, because if they do get sick then we could sell meds to the customer. Then theres the training material, all it is is How to order Petco stuff and one out of six handbooks was about animal care. I remember it saying in an eloquent, misleading way that its ok to sell too small of a tank for a fish becuase the customer will either quit or be commited and buy another tank. After two years of dealing with Petco redtape I had it. I think that if you need to make any changes try firing Regional management and hire people who KNOW how to take care of animals and not just BS the public and crap on those who know more...

congratulations Chris, i have a question. can you order us fish? Or better yet, be able to post up a list of stuff we may order fish/price? thanks!

Re fish

Re fish

I order fish for myself and others every week. I offer all of the customers the same as I offer my employees, the choice of taking the fish directly from the overnight shipping box (delivered to our store every Wednesday am) or to hold in our tank for 24 hours. Unfortunately we have a no return policy for marine fish, but if something does not look good on arrival I would not expect anyone to pay for it, we can watch it in our tank, if it does well great, if not I will reorder.
Petco has much better prices on many fish, inverts etc.
This week we are haveing a $1 per gallon sale from 20 g to 55g, with a really nice 45 g Tall.
Starting 09/07 for a week we are having an in store sale of
Chocolate Chip Star $5.99
Coral Banded Shrimp $4.99
False Lemon Peel Angel $13.99
Coral Beauty Angel $13.99
Powder Brown Tang $18.99
Lawnmower Blenny $12.99
Foxface $16.99
Sally Lightfoot Crab $6.99
Brown Scopas Tang $11.99
These are not normal prices but are on sale to support our $1 per gallon sale. I have limeted numbers of these coming in and am starting a wait list for them. This is a special allocation of wildcaught fish.
All of our Clownfish, Dottybacks, Royal Gramma, Xenia, Maxima and Derusa Clams, Long polyp and Green Polyp Leather, and several others I am not remembering are captive Tank Raised and overnighted from ORA.
I have an updated weekly availability list every Wednesday by noon from all of our vendor partners of over 2000 different SKU's, of which I would normally only order a handful of for the store.
Be aware that if you order directly from Petco.com they offer a 14 day guarantee.
I am always excited to meet new fish folks, and of course try to grow our business.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, I am happy to share our availability and prices.
Thanks for your interest,
Chris Kelln
