Enough lighting for Acro's?

I'm setting up a frag system that is 36x18x12" high. Is the ATI 24" 4 bulb enough light? I'm kind of wishing I had gotten the 24" six bulb now but wanted to see what the opinions are.

I run this exact setup, except that my tank is 19" high.

I ran my ATI 6x24 Dimmable for a while until I got into LED's. Worked great, but acropora on the sides needed light.

But you had the 6 bulb correct? Mine is the 4 bulb.

I understand. 6 bulb is the minimum way to go. You'll be fine for SPS under the light in your case. Not completely recommended, but it should do the job

You can always get reefbrite blue strips and add them on the outsides adding pop

Yes thank you. I know I can supplement but I'd rather have one fixture that can do the job especially since it's a frag system. If I need a the six bulb fixture I'd rather make the change now rather than after unpacking the new light. Thank you for the suggestion though.

That's a super shallow tank. Just hang the thing a little higher. 4 bulb is fine. Run 3x blue plus and a coral plus.

I run a 4 bulb sunpower over my frag tank that has dimensions of 36x18x14. The 4 bulb isnt enough light for acros. Montis, birdsnest, and anything other then acros grow awesome but the acros slowly brown out and stn in the frag tank that shares same water as my DT. I'm now retrofitting the sunpower with LED's to boost par. In my experience the 4 bulb wasnt enough light for acros.

Uh oh! [emoji45] thanks for that info

You should get a 36" unit, especially for a frag tank which you might want to fill right to the edges. Those t5 units put out very little light on the sides, so you'll have very low lighting on each end. A 36" 6 bulb unit would be my choice.

Good thought for sure but with a 36" fixture I would have way too much light spilling onto the sump that sits on the floor next to it. I don't want coralline algae growing in my sump. Also, that's why I used black acrylic on the sides.

You made a good decision. The 6 will be ideal. Just give it 12" or so off the water. That's a really shallow tank
