Equipment suggestions please

Hi, everyone,

I am trying to get together an equipment list for a marineland 300 DD. I need a protein skimmer, lights, a sump, and a return pump. I'll be able to use a lot of equipment from my 150 mixed reef tank (which is now overgrown!). When I set that tank up several years ago, I got some great suggestions from this forum. If you could help me again, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

Denise

Hi Denise,
I was going there also but changed my mind.
Unless you are going to have a 3 side access to the tank you will be in trouble,:headwally: even for a guy like me.
It has a LARGE footprint and doing anything in the rear becomes a real problem.
Just trying to give you a heads up.
On to the good stuff:
I bought a DC controlled return pump and could not be more pleased with flow & power consumption, check them out.
The only question since they are new is reliability.
Lighting can be challenging depending on what you want, MH, LED or T-5's.
That is a personal choice but again it's 3' deep.
There are a number of GOOD threads here on these tank builds.
I suggest reading them, they will give you plenty to think about.
I wound up going with a 250 -- 72 X 30 X 27 high.

Hey, Vinny,

Thanks for the input. I will have access to 3 sides of the tank, but if it would be difficult for you to handle, I doubt I'd be able to manage. I'll take your advice and read some more. I just love the look of the extra depth. My corals have outgrown my tank, so I need to do something.

How do you like your new tank? Are you using the same LED lighting? Anytime you are ready for some frags, just let me know. I have a lot of coral from your old tank.

Tank looks great - Using the same LED'S -- just finished cycle -- need some fish 1st.
Probably going more LPS this time but thanks.

Look at you guys go!! :)

Love to see pics of these tanks.

(I have a couple of wave boxes and tunze streams I've been saving for my "next" tank. Pm me if they could be of any use.)

Hey, Justin,

This is embarrassing, but I can't figure out how to post photos from my iPad. I'll have to get one of my kids to do it tomorrow! Are you planning to pick up the pond fish? You could see my reef tank in real life then.😃

Hi Denise

Call me old fashioned but I still love the Reef Dynamic (Euroreef Skimmers). I would use a INS250 or INS300 in the sump. PM fio1022 (Jim) he recently bought the 300 model and I believe he likes it :)

I just set the same tank up .

Wow, Chuck, that looks great! How do you like it so far? Would you mind telling me about your equipment? Thanks for sharing!

I love it the depth makes for an awsome reef tank .as far as equipment I'm running 3-250 watt mh with 20k radiums bulbs .I'm thinking about going led ...just to save some money and reduce heat .I have 2 panworld pumps one for return the other for a mai fold which feed the b ertex reactors .cal.gfo.carbon it also feeds the two tanks ibe plumbed to it a 29 gal and 20 gal .skimmer I'm using a asm g4 with the added mod done to it .so far it has no probleme handling my tank .I may go with the vertex alpha cone 300 which is a sick skimmer I had the 200 on my old system and it was no joke ..if u wanna stop by one day to check it out let me know

Thanks, Chuck, I'd love to take a look at your set up. I use an ASM-G3 on my 150 & 220 and I've been pretty happy with them. I have mh on my reef tank now, but I'm planning to switch over, too. How long have you had your 300?
