A pair of these have shown up in my lfs in London UK. Lfs I suspect has no idea what he has and notes on the web are sparse and contradictory. Anyone have any knowledge/experience of these in a reef tank?
As far as I know they are from the Caribbean and get to roughly 10-12"s when grown. They will eat your inverts, shrimps and clams. Not sure about other fish or any corals. Also the correct spelling is Equetus Punctatus. That might help in your search for info.
I have seen quite a few of these while diving in the Caribbean. They are known as "spotted drum fish." as juveniles they have large fins, and then they fill in. I suspect they are a relative of grunts/sweetlips... meaning that they are a larger predatory fish. Hope this helps.
