Erik's 90gal build

ok so the tank is slowly making its way in the house. Today I finally moved the tank up to the balcony. Jay came over to make some measurements for the brackets that he is going to fabricate for me. I mock assembled things again so Jay could see what we were working with. I also threw the hanging trees in on the pics. I think they look sweet. here are some pics

Just a quick observation ..Why is it most of you guys that are drilling a tank down there are not covering overflow box with acrylic and making teeth on your overflows? Just habit or preference?

was just wondering?

Reign, I will be be either gluing black egg crate on the surface of the over flow or if the price is right I will get an overflow cover made By Luis @ Aquarium Concept. Also as far as the the not covering the overflows it just looks clean that way. I just like keeping a bunch of snails in my tank so that is not an option for me.

The overflow on my DT is covered because the bottom is drilled and it does hide the plumbing inside it. Not sure if it actually stops the snails I still find them in my box/sump. I've seen the small glass box on multiple tanks and sometimes it Dosent draw the eye like a black box does. I have seen photos (algae in the box but not on back glass around it) that makes it a eyesore to me. I've liked both.

Because acrylic does not bond well to glass using silicone. That is why i make them out of glass. And there is no way i will try to put teeth in it since it would take forever! lol Also with teeth they will require cleaning every once and awhile sine over time they will be build up with algae. I have my glass overflow box dead center in the frag tank and have yet had one fish go over it. But i have a friend that has glass-holes style and they go over all the time. lol

haha SWEET man, i had seen that on the site and didnt understand it at all. haha. i was like why is it out of stock, and why is it 99c's a pound ?? hahaha. great job man.

One more update:
I just recieved two Tunze 7091 controllers that I will be using to control 2 Tunze nano streams 6055. I am also planning to add a tunze nano wavebox but all of that will come after I buy both LED light fixtures that I need for the tank.

Well Ive been reading through numerous other threads, trying to get ideas on what I can add to the tank. I have realized that I am missing the "Beer Can" for reference shot, so here it is! LOL!

This morning, build master Jay brought over the brackets he had made for my tank. Just like everything else he makes, they are awsome. Here are some pics to show off his work.

I will also be receiving the Marco rock today.

The rock came in! It looks good, the only thing that I dont like is how easy it crumbles. the biggest piece was broke in two during the shipping but it still looks good.

Looking good bro! Jay does fantastic work. Cant wait to see this thing get some water.

on the ATS, are you going with single side or double side filtration (1 lamp on one side or 2 lamps on both sides)? I have a 48" cube on order on that will be run primarily with an ATS (double sided but long), a calcium reactor, and the BRS reactor for carbon. I may do a UV sterilizer for a closed loop but that's it. Trying to keep the whole system under 2-5 amps or the equivalent of 500-750 watts total for the system.

Great work. Again, cant wait to see this system with water.

I dont want to run my system without a skimmer. I am going to go with single side on the ATS since 2 sq. inches of screen per gallon, if lit on just ONE side.
(10 x 8 = 80 sq. inches = 40 gallons). I want the ATS to work like a refugium on steroids. The ATS and live rock in the sump will be doing most of the cleaning work. The skimmer is just a form of insurance. If I see that it is still not eough, then I will light bot sides.

My lady is getting anxious as well. She has even started pitching on the build. Shes getting ready to go buy some Epoxy putty, bigh storage container, and some crazy glue. She wants to start putting securing some pieces together and start cleaning the rock and cycleing it so we can put it all together once we get the LEDs. Did I mention that she volunteered to buy one of the LEDs;)
