probably. if it's too much for the pump/stirbar to mix. or if there's junk in your kalk or source water that causes lots of insoluable precip to build up. the only benefit to putting more in is to make it go longer between refills. but until you've had it for a while and know all the ins and outs for that particular unit (and what it does to your pH), i'd only put a little in at a time.
adding kalk raises the tank pH. which is usually a good thing. but it can sometimes raise it too much. so it's probably good to start really slow, and not put more in than you can easily keep an eye on at first.
