etss reef devil deluxe

I have an older ETSS (600'ish size) and that thing is amazing with my Mag 7. I dial in the bubble column height with the gate valve and I can skim either wet or dry.

And Yes , I live in New York.
I am not an expert, but from having one I know to get that skimmate it must be 1-2 months.......
pfish-these skimmers take about 1-2 days to really see your adjustment to it. Stop tinkering with it...close the gate valve till you have clear water 1/2 inch in the neck....let it run like that for 2 days no tinkering. it might overflow, you should have a ball valve on pump that goes into the skimmer to cut back if this happens. Do not touch the red gate valve. After 48hrs make another adjustment. This will give you a wetter skimmate.

Ok krzyphsygy;
I'm going to get a valve for the air intakes and throttle that down along with what you are prescribing, and see if I can make that work.
Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I would love to get half of MTA's skimmate in a week.

These skimmers work better with less adjustments because they take sooooo long to see each adjustment fully. You might think you are seeing it, but really its just the begining. let it run for atleast 48hrs each time and then make a desicion.

well, we will find out soon if I like it or not. I ordered the reef devil deluxe xr, comes with ca 2200 pump. I have a mag 7 and a mag 9 that I can swap out pumps with to tinker til I getwhat I want.
I know it has to be better than the css220 I am running now. Also , I didnt have 6-700 to put out on a skimmer and a pump which is why I got this one, and they said if I wasn't happy with it, that I could send it back and get credit towards a bigger one.

just got my reef devil deluxe xr going today...this thing is gonna be a beast. I have had it running for about 4 hours on the very lowest setting and it still outskims my cs220 I had. I cant wait til tomorrow so I can start to close the valve a bit.
With the valve 100% open, it still has bubbles in the tower and I am getting some very light skim collected already.
Thanks to all that recommended the ETSS's on this board.
The other forum I go to also had alot of peeps recommend. Most on there were saying the asm's and the mrc's. I dont know how those skimmer's perform, but I really can't see amything in the $300 range coming even close to the ETSS

Thats great to hear. Keep us posted. And don't forget some pictures. Etss skimmate is a beautiful sight.

I believe is just a matter of opinion, but i'm a fan too.

Totally disagree but again it all depends on how u skim wet or dry. Anyways feeding and so forth will also make a great difference.
As i stated previously i've played with other skimmers and very happy with my results as well as direction my new setup is going, and yes it can take care of a 200 with a LAAAARGE LOAD>

Update and pics?

I've been running a Reef Devil Deluxe for about a month now that I got second hand from a local reefer taking a break from the hobby.

It didn't have the bioballs, didn't have a pump and didn't have anything in the John Guest fitting.

Picked up some nano balls locally and used a Rio+ 2500 that was laying around as it is rated for approx. 690 gph the way I have it installed. WIthout anything in the Guest fitting it foamed all over the base (duh!).

Question - What comes in the Guest fitting when shipped? I just took 4-6" of RO tubing and put a vacuum cap on the end of it.

Anyway, I made a DIY overflow into a gallon milk jug sitting outside my sump and I have about 1/2 gallon of production over the last two weeks or so. Somewhat like thick tea but I've never really played with the valve setting on it.

I also wonder if a different (Mag7) pump would make that much of a difference.

I would accept donations to run a head-to-head test of the two pumps! :D
