Euro Reef foam level adjust help

I know they may the return pipe almost down to the bottom of the skimmer but I wonder if the out-put should be above the water to prevent back pressure.
 
It looks like something in the water is causing the excessive foaming. Using any water conditioners? Reef epoxy?
 
I have mine underwater,no problems,except dang dreaded microbubbles. You can take off the ext. pipe though and just let it free flow to the water I guess.
 
Try running carbon for for a week,changing every couple days,this will take care of any foaming agents in the water.

I did use reef 2 part epoxy from a fish store to glue the base rocks together. It took almost a full tube. How long will that effect it? I do have 2 bags of fluval carbon sitting in the sump right now.

That is your culprit right there. Run carbon and let the epoxy dilute and the skimmer should return to normal within 24 hours.

I use Aquamend epoxy and have an older Euroreef skimmer and all epoxies I have used besides Aquamend make my skimmer foam over like yours is doing.
 
It looks like the skimmers doing what it's supposed to do and now it's just a matter of eliminating whatever is in the water that's causing such a huge foam output, I'd reccommend using chemipure to see if that helps. Although it no longer appears that anything is clogged, Just for info purposes, my rs135 when I first got it would run fine for a few days then tank water would just start pouring out of the top, I disassembled and cleaned the pump and washed out the air hose with freshwater, that is supposed to work but didn't. After closely inspecting every little part, I discovered some soft white stuff that was slightly covering the actual valve, the part that the handle opens and closes. Cleaned it off and it's been fine since. Just a little added info in case it's ever needed.

That 2 part epoxy is a real problem with skimmers. I used just a little once and my skimmer went insane for days. I wont use it any more.

Try carbon and turn the air WAY down on the skimmer and see if you can get it to where it doesn't overflow. You may need to remove the output riser and temporarily use a shorter one.
 
What about gate modding the skimmer? It would make it easier to adjust later on? Right now it wouldn't matter, it can't get enough air in it to lower the foam levels. So, I am running some carbon bags but should the skimmer stay on while it just pours over or let the carbon go for a bit while the skimmer is off? The tank has sat for a week before the skimmer was plugged in but the carbon was put in a few days ago. It was a lot of the epoxy, almost a whole tube to glue rocks together.

Could that be making nitrites or ammonia levels too by the way? The tank is new so there would be a cycle, but it was new sand and base rock.
 
The output design it has is fine. You dont need a gate valve. Run the carbon and do some large water changes.

Did you try less air? Barely have it open. Remove the outflow assembly if you can and just use a short piece of PVC to keep the water level really low.
 
If you close the air intake somewhat, it really pours over twice as fast lol. I'm not going to do water changes on it, I changed about 140 gallons twice already lol.
 
Just wait it out then. The "reef epoxy" really sux. Totally unusable in a reef system (that has a skimmer).
 
So the only filtration right now in there is the carbon, should I leave the skimmer off or just run it and let it pour over for a break in type of thing? It has been running for many hours already though for a break in.
 
Let it run I guess. It wont hurt anything. I wonder if a Polyfilter would help to clean out the epoxy??
