Eurobrace or bottom brace?

I am building an aquarium 60x24x20H out of 1/2 non tempered glass. I was originally planning on eurobracing it but a few people have suggested I can put the bracing at the bottom of the tank instead and it would hold with my dimensions.

I'd like input from people with experience and not going off of hearsay.

GOOD LUCK Chronic...im asking similiar questions for my 60x24x24 tank build and getting nowhere...I figure if your tank build isn't a bazillion gallons no one here is interested... I've been looking through other forums and just talking to other reefers who have built there own and that helped.... I decided to over build and be done with it....cheers

Bottom bracing will not make up for a lack of euro bracing at the top. The top bracing is there to stop the glass from bowing out from water pressure.

You build it out of 15mm glass, and you won't need the top euro brace; would only need the bottom internal euro brace. As it is, you are under thickness to safely go without the top euro brace. Either way, you need the bottom internal euro brace. A lot of people guess about this stuff. Very few, if any of them, really have any experience at all.

The real reason is not many people are willing to give that advice as we simply don't know the real answer. On top of that most of the time the OP ignores the advice from the handful of people who can actually answer these questions.

OP got a correct answer from a tank builder and mostly ignored it. He said you need both top and bottom. Of course there is still time to order 4 more strips of glass to get it right.

I'm not choosing to ignore it. My original question was can I get away with just the bottom internal eurobrace or do I also need the top eurobrace? Being that I am putting in the top eurobrace, I thought that implied I was putting the bottom eurobrace in as well.

Nowhere does he state that he is a tank builder, so to my knowledge the statement: "A lot of people guess about this stuff. Very few, if any of them, really have any experience at all." Was applying to him as well.

I did find my answers here by extensive searches and lots of reading. My build will be 60x24x24 using 5/8 glass all around with bottom euro brace, coast to coast glass overflow with front and side eurobrace....My apoligies if my initial post sounded rude...more frustration than anything else...cheers...Bob

May not have intended it to be read that way but that's the way it appears to me. Regardless, few people want to give advice on this subject due to the reason I stated above, that and liability.

I will just go with the top eurobrace as I already have the glass cut for it.

Miracles built both of my 220g and 270g and both of them has bottom and top eurobraced with 0.5" thick glass.
