Bill,

You need to use a 1" uniseal on the input.
It is normal for the venturi to be adhered to the volute.

As far as the two pumps being too much, I have the same skimmer that has the original pump feeding the skimmer normally and I added a sedra 9000 as a recirc mod. This was a phenomenal mod (It is now far better then the ASM G6 that is currently on the same tank. The G6 is soon to be replaced by a RC-750 as soon as Euro-Reef gets it made :hint: )

wow Marvin posting in ER's thread and ER posing in a Deltec thread...crazy times...like snow in July :lol:Lunchbucket

I'm posting on the ER thread:D I seem to be a little confused lately;)

Marvin;

i'm having some trouble with my sedra 3500 pump, when i turn it off it take about 30 seconds to get going but once it;s working the pump seems to make a lot of bubbles. the pump is on a ER5-2. does it just need a cleaning or is the pump on it;s last leg?

i think i found the problem, my pump is missing the rubber bushing that goes on the shaft. now should i not run the pump until i get this part?

Bill,

Keep in mind that with this mod it will take a bit to learn your skimmer again and it is very powerful and there is a very big chance you will overflow the collection cup if you are not careful.

Recirc mod on CS12-3

Recirc mod on CS12-3

Ok, so after reading all the pages on this thread, I decided to mod my CS12-3. For those unfamiliar, it' a 36" tall x 12" diameter body and originally equipped with three Sedra 5000's. Being that my new sump doesn't have enough space to house all three pumps, I decided to convert two of them to recirculate.

I think I've tried everything and I can't get rid of the turbulence in the neck. I angled the 45's in different directions and didn't notice any difference.

The Sedras are located directly opposite of each other. The output of the pumps stick into the body for about 2" and a 45 degree elbow angles the flow downwards.

I've reamed out the air line intake in the venturi to 3/16" thinking that the lack of air might be the culprit. It's been running for about a week and the bubbles are still not very dense.

Any advice appreciated!!!

And of course, here are some pics:

I'm having the same problem on my ER5-2. Mine doesn't start up though. I cleaned mine last week after it did the same thing, gave it a vinegar dunk for 24 hours and it started up again. Turned it off tonight to clean the skimmer and it won't start.

Has anyone run into this problem and have a fix? Everything on their site is for the new Sedra pumps.

I emailed ER but if anyone has something I can do now, I'd appreciate it.

gil 716,

The sedra 5000 pumps are your problem... they are very weak IME. Get yourself some OR 3700s and then you'll be cooking with fire! Sedra 5000s are weaker than Sedra 9000s and Sedra 9000s are a lot weaker than OR 3700s.

Or you could try to get some of the new SP pumps from Jeff at Euroreef, which are touted as being much more powerful and efficient.

Peace,
John H.

Has anyone slapped a 1260 from H&S or Deltec on an ER ? I am borrowing a buddies 200-1260 and this thing rocks .......My 8-2 has the same body size as the custom h&s I am using so I figure I can give new life to my 8-2 by ditching the sedra 5000 .

hey guys & girls............ i'm your newest member
just put got my CS6-1... got it running in the sump and in the past two its pulled out more skimmate than my P.O.S. hob skimmer, i wont mention any names ::cough:: remora ::cough::

just one qustion........ where should the water line end and the bubble line begin... i have a gate valve on mine so adjusting is no problem... right now my water line ends just below the collection cup

My Sedra 3500 was getting more and more difficult to restart for well over a year. I spoke to Jeff at Euroreef and he suggested replacing the magnet but could not give me a good explanation why, so I decided to wait. After several more weeks it finally quit running altogether and I noticed that the magnet had become swollen and deteriorated. I was able to get it working again by turning the magnet down on a lathe, but it was still difficult to restart. I realized that the breakdown of the material had weakened its magnetic properties so I took Jeff’s advice and ordered a replacement. Works like a new pump now.

as a matter of fact yes:D . That is what i did but i installed it on my 6-2. That thing if freaking insane. I had to remove the riser tube and let the water come right out becuase I would have to empty my skimmer cup every day. I can post some pictures tomorrow of my set up. Now I didn't use the h&s or Deltec pump by my own version with the sedra needle weel. I am getting as of right now 12-13lpm. That is what i think the H&S are getting and even deltec says that the skimmer works better at only 10lpm.

Regarding the SP3 in use on a CS8-2 or larger 8" skimmer: The pump can be modified by reaming out the venturi air inlet to 3/16 diameter. This shoudl increase air intake by 20-30%. Still, it is a bit undersized for the skimmer based upon current technology standards and an upgrade to the SP4 woudl be the best move. For skimmers taller than 24", the SP5 is the best upgrade as it handles the head better.

Out new impeller running on the SP4 only pulls 35 watts and is drawing 15-18 lpm based upon back pressure. Final numbers are not recorded yet. Suffuce it to say, it is every bit as powerful as an EHEIM or OCEAN RUNNER and consumes less electricty. We should have new improved rotor assemblies within a few months that will decrease any sound output from vibrational resonance substantially. Again, think quiet like an EHEIM.

Hope that helps-

BTW I thought I might post the new MAP Prices for the RS Series skimmers here. They will officially be available online through Marine Depot and Premium Aquatics as of July 15th. They are as follows:

RS80 $248
RS100 $288
RS135 $328
RS180 $438
RS250 $478

I think if you compare these to legitimate online dealers selling ASM skimmers you will not see much of a difference!! Your local retailers allready have access to the product at these prices so if you are ready to buy, check your LFS. :)

I am not finding the rs100 anywhere for 288, what is difference between rs100 and cs100? the cs100 is like 400 dollars, ouch.. why double in price btw from the cs80 to the 100?

I am looking to replace my asm g1x for something a little larger, my budget is 300 tops and thats pushing it (after the couple grand I put into this hobby already, I am already on thin ice with the significant other :)). this rs100 be a good fit for a 90g with 30g sump tank? or would something like a asm g3 be better? I do not know alot about skimmers, just what I read on reefcentral here.. heard this octopus one mentioned a few times?

thanks all

Thanks for the response. That's what I suspected. I tried "reaming it", but that didn't seem to help. Once again, the solution to my problem is mo' money. :T What's a neophiliac to do?
