As far as the $1000 price tag... NO PROBLEM!! The RC180 will be well under $1000 and we hope to keep the RC250 really close!! We are not about to gouge people (not like we ever have or ever would) just because we are using Eheim pumps. No worries there!!-ER

POSTED TODAY

<a href=showthread.php?s=&postid=7730311#post7730311 target=_blank>Originally posted</a> by euroreef The SEDRA and GEN-X pumps we currently use meet or exceed EHEIM and Aquabee specs on nearly every level. Skimmer for skimmer , pump for pump. -ER

So which is it??

Jeff, I am a bit confused? I figure it is best to post on your thread so here it is. You have said that a new line of skimmer pumps are expected in September.

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=7732966#post7732966

Why are you on the Deltec forum talking down about Ehiem and Aquabee? Not trying to start WW3, but just wanting to know? I am posting my thoughts, and want to keep the air clean.

After all inquiring minds want to know? Thanks in advance.

Confusion

Confusion

All,

I apologize if there has been any confusion. It has never been an issue of not liking Eheims or as to weather or not they are good pumps. We have a ton of them (1262's) coming in a few weeks to be used on our RC series skimmers. We know they are a quality pump and intend to make the best use of them with our products as possible. We have received MANY requests for EHEIM pumps over the past few years and we are answering the call. :)

The comments I made within the posts referred to were simply an effort to clarifying any misconception or incorrect information regarding the Sedra and GEN-X pumps we currently use. It is routinely posted throughout this forum that the "CHINESE" pumps (even though SEDRA is made in Korea) are weaker and less efficient than the EHEIM and AQUABEE pumps (We have samples of the newest AQUABEE pumps en route for review). We have posted all the specs from our research and testing on our website and somehow folks either don't understand them or are ignoring them.

In addition, the issue of skimmer comparison based upon MFR's rating is, as we all know, risky at best. In light of the fact that there isn't currently, nor will there likely ever be any verifiable way to qualify or quantify the performance of a given skimmer (as the variables are endless), it makes no sense to base ones decision purely on a mfrs rating.

We are working on a paper that (we hope) will shed some light on our rating system and provide some insight from our 25 years of experience with skimmer mfrs of all kinds.

We are also publishing (shortly) what we call a "Comparative Skimmer Rating" so that when folks are on our website and reviewing our products, they can see how our skimmers compare to other similarly rated skimmers. We will post our "paper" on the webpage with these ratings so that it can be reviewed in light of these ratings.

As a skimmer mfr, it is surely our duty to provide what we believe are "realistic" ratings for our products they we are confident will yield the desired result for our patrons. Anything short of that is truly a disservice to both the customer and the hobby.

Marvin, - I would be happy to discuss any other detailed questions you might have at your convenience. You can reach me at 949-770-9913 ext 17 M-F 9a-5p PST. I want to be sure you understand that I was not trying to hijack the thread in the DELTEC forum ( as I stated in my final post), but I believed it was ( and is) important to make sure the correct information is represented when our products are in question. :)

Arc- I hope that answers your questions. :)

Jeff,

I am somewhat new to the Euro Reef family and I have to tell your I am very impressed with your tireless dedication to this thread and your objectiveness towards other companies products.

I believe the difference between ASM, Euro, deltec, H&S, Etc. is very marginal when it comes to skimming. The difference is some companies exagerate what a given model will do and the overall construction (read longevity of the product). There are price points when it comes to quality construction and any reefer worth his salt should be able to tell the realistic claims (ER's) vs. the exagerated ones and compare like models instead of like "ratings". I am about to put a G4X RC against my 12/1 RC head to head, which I believe will prove this point - once the RC kit is available on the ER online store

Your, Euro-Reef's, customer service and honesty since I have been a customer make me feel like I made the right choice w/ my ER skimmer. Keep up good work.

Skylar,

I appreciate the comments. It is very important to us to be objective and honest about ours and other mfrs products. We have no pretense, just a desire to make the best products possible, :)

Regarding the RC upgrade kits: We are working on putting them up on the website as I write. They should be available early next week if not sooner. :)

Are you planning on upgrading your 12-1 with 2 x SP4-RC Kits? If so, you are in for a treat!! They may actually over power the skimmer body a bit, but a Gate Valve mod and a bit of adjustment to the air intake valves should get you where you want to be.

Best of luck and feel free to call us anytime with questions. :)

wow Marvin posting in ER's thread and ER posing in a Deltec thread...crazy times...like snow in July

know what i got to thinking would be funny? a pic of Jeff from ER and Doug (or someone else big into Deltec) to post a picture hugging or kissing eachothers skimmers. its like when dogs and cats sleep next to eachother...soemthing just looks out of place but makes you laugh :D

I was going to go with the SP4 - but the cost may stop me. I actually made the mistake of buying 2 sedra KSP 9000 thinking they were SP4s - Call me stupid.

I think I can use the 9000's if I raise the skimmer body off the bootom of my sump about 2" - We'll see I am going on vacation and will deal with it when I get back.

By the way when is the RC400 going to be out and which pumps are on it?

Thanks

Lunch... I guess youy missed the phot op at IMAC eh?? Doug and I were in a full embrace in front of the DELTEC booth!! LOL! Dougs a great guy and so is Marvin from what I can tell OTP. Good people in a great hobby makes for a lot of fun and a pleasurable business!!

;)

skylar,

The 2x9000's will do a good job, they just aren;t much more powerful than the 5000's. You may want to put one 9000 and one SP4...

We are not planning on making an RC400, but rather an RC350 with a 10" diameter chamber @ 24" tall. We hope to have it in the works later this year...

Euro-reef,

You may want to take a look at that page. Some of the text is on top of the other text near the bottom of the page.

I checked it and made some adjustments. Look at it now. If you still have problems viewing it, e-mail me a screen shot so I can see what you are seeing. :)

What? You didn't get the decoder glasses with your Euro Reef purchase... I can read it fine and in 3D:D

I have a question for all you ER folks out there.
I have a 8x24 ER with a Sedra 5000 ( I cant remember the model) and I want to do the recirc-mod (I have already done the gate valve mod) on the current Sedra. I know that the output of the Sedra is 3/4" but the input is a different size. Its larger than the output.
What size Uniseal should I buy for the input?
By the way, the venturi of my Sedra came adhered to the volute (its one piece) is that normal?

In addition to recirculating my current Sedra, I have acquired another Sedra 5000 to add as a recirculating pump as well .

Will this be too much for a 8x24?

Thanks in advance.
