David8956,

I suggest you try reaming out the Venturi with a drill bit that JUST fits inside the Venturi hole. I believe 1/8" will do the trick. If you don't see an increase in performance, I suggest you consider replacing the impeller assembly or at least the magnet. If you have not tried soaking the impeller kit in PURE vinegar, try that for 24hrs and see if it helps. If there is ANY build up of Calcium Carbonate on the shaft or bearings it will affect pump and thus skimmer performance.

clkwrk,

You can do a mod to your 8-2 that will improve it's performance. You can also upgrade the pump to the new SP4 and it will more than double the current air intake and performance.

JFish180,

You need to get a new airline hose. The old style has a smaller ID and will do just what you describe as well as limit the air intake causing the pump to pump draw less air, more water and thus create more turbulence which will decrease skimming efficiency. Any of our dealers can order you a new airline kit which includes a control valve.

Yes. SP5 is the name for the ER modified GX6000 pump and associated parts. You can get these parts from any dealer anytime.

Hey euroreef

Where do I get a gate valve for my RC500? it came with a regular shut off. I need a gate valve with a unions on both sides.

240-Reefer, I don't think true-union gate valves are made. I've never seen one, and I've looked. You'll have to get a socket weld gate valve, two unions, and some pipe. You can get everything at www.mcmaster.com

As far as I know, no one makes a gate valve with unions on it (if they did, we might consider stocking it). You'd have to make it yourself from parts. All those parts are available through our dealers if you want them.

I have a model RS-100 skimmer. Where can I buy the kit to modify the way I adjust the level of the skimmer? Rather than pull up and down on the pipe, is there a better way?

Regards,

Pat

Euroreef,

Can I suggest you add a handle or something to the collection cup. It is really difficult to twist off the cup to clean. I have the RC250 with the twist off cup. I've added the ointment but it dries out too fast.

Also, it would be nice to have a handle or something to hold the skimmer cup. Another problem is the collection cup is too narrow to really fit the hand in there to clean. It would be nice if it were wider.

Well here are some pics of my new RC500 Freshly cleaned. All around it is a kick but skimmer. I give it a 9 and the reason it got a 9 and not a 10 is because I think a $1500 skimmer should adjust a little easier. Sent Euro Reef an email and their response was they put a new easy adjust ball valve. :thumbdown Now, have you ever in you life had an easy to adjust ball valve. Fine tuning the puppy was a little disappointing, but after a week of taping the stupid ball valve I think I got it there.

See that Easy to adjust ball valve? I don't!!! What a bag of BS!!!!

I think there is a way to take the handle off the ball valve and use it to somehow loosen up the ball valve so it is easier to adjust. PM lunchbucket, I seem to remember him posting something about it.

240-Reefer,

I see that you have the pumps installed in reversed. Meaning the input is on top and the output is on the bottom. Does that work better?
