Cool- I am really interested in seeing what the new impellers look like. I'm not doubting anything but I'm really interested in seeing an impeller that increases air that much without looking more like a standard impeller.....

looking to join the club with an rs135.

but before i make my first big reef purchase, im hoping you guys and gals can ease a few of my questions/concerns :

1. is the rs v cs anything to worry about?

2. is it worth $100 to get an Rs135 over a Cs80 (for a 65g)

3. or should i wait to see what the new skimmers will be like.

i have no doubt that i will be a member of this club within the week, but i dont know if should be the rs135 or cs80, or a future model.

i think the cs80 would do just fine, but was offered a new rs135 for $3oo. is it a good deal? or should i just stick with the cs80? or wait all together for the new models to be released?

thanks for all the help

get the 135 due to its size and then you have room for error and the skimmer can handle what you throw in the tank. the 65 g can easy be skimmed by the CS135:bum:

yeah, the riser tube was pretty much just sitting on the top of the other pipe. Ive emptied the cup twice since I last posted about it. I knew it had lots in the tank because its been skimmerless for almost a month. The mod for the external cup is a defenate mod as well. Probably before the gate mod. I didnt know fish $hit smelled so much! wow, i thought I was bad!

My last skimmer on my old cube was a CPR HOB skimmer rio propelled skimmer. Totally worthless compared to this thing! Wow!
Totally sold.

Hey Now all,

I just got a great deal from premiumaquatics...a cs80...for my new 65gallon. So I am joining the club!

I have been playing catch up and reading through this thread. I am somewhat confused though.

Are the cs series discontinued? I read that marinedepot said they weren't making them anymore? Is this why there are all the online discounts with the cs series?

I also read on this thread that there were a bunch of problems with the cs series?

If anyone can make me feel better about my confusion and my purchase iw ould be grateful!

Also the sticker that should be on the top of my pump was taken off for some reason? Anyone know why this was done? It's still sticky there and I can see where a sticker should have been. Anything important I should know that was on the top of the pump?

thanks!

take care,
Jared

cs80

cs80

i recently purchased a cs80 for my 100g with sump due to only having 9.5" x 9.5" area to put skimmer. do i have to keep skimmer return pipe out of water, as it sits now the water level is about 1 " over the pipe. it does skim but has up & down periods as if low and high tides. does not seem to matter if i top off sump or it is a little low.

I just thought as a former happy mutiple er owner I would mention my new rps-3000 that I bought with store credit to play with pulls the same amount of air as my old 8-2 with sedra 5000 with less avertised watts and pulls the same as my current g-3 with sedra 5000.

I thought you had to have the return pipe above the water?

Yeah, thats not too suprising. The sp3's were notoriously underpowerd on the 8" bodies IMO. ER switched those out with the sp4. More power. They run the sp3's only on the 6" models now. The say they're pulling in 660 lph on those bodies.

How long ago did you buy that 8-2 clkwrk?

Jim

my 8-2 was the old style with the pita union before the nicer ones . I say a couple years at least.

I knew there was a reason when I was selling all my er's I kept the g-3 instead of the 8-2 for my 90g. I always thought my g-3 did better and that would explain it 8" vs 6.5

That would mean the 8" x30 body of the rps 3000 is being way underpowered also since both the sedra 5000 and octopus 3000 pull the same air

BTW ER still has better quality. IME

Yeah, thats my opinion as well, but others seem to be really happy wit their results.

The reason why I asked how old it was is because I remember reading ER did some design changes last year to their pumps. I don't remember if thats rights though. Anyway, what are the exact #'s you're pulling with that rps-3000?

BTW,
man, that acro in your avatar is awsome!

Mine was og all orginal the models right after they stopped with the ehimes

finallt got my skimmer today, sweet! now i have to figure out how to hook this thing up, looks like i have some reading to do both of directions and on this thread, thanks to all for the help in picking my cs-80 skimmer for my 40 breeder reef. i will keep you all posted.

I'm more than happy to say that i'm a (will be a soon as it gets shipped off) new owner of a ER skimmer. I gave up a set of tires to my new set or wheels for this bad boy. just wanted to share with you guys.

Would somebody please post several detailed pics of the inside of the pump housing on one of the Gen-X 4100 pumps that ER has modified for their skimmers? I am trying to figure out what it is they did to the pump that made it pull the numbers they claim....Thanks!

help!

help!

Hey Now all,

I just recieved my cs80 last week and was finally able to put my new reef together yesterday. I think I have a problem with the pump. The skimmer is housed in my sump in seven inches of water. When I first turned the pump on I got nothing but clear water in the skimmer body. The water level is exactly as it should so no problem there but it is total clear water....zero bubbles...put my thumb up and down over the air intake and nothing. I pulled the pump out made sure the venturi was on the right way, poked a toothpick through the venturi to make sure it was clear and i blew through the tubing and looked through it to make sure there weren't any obstructions.
Tried it again and nothing but clear water. The specific gravity of my water is 1.025

Does this mean my impeller isnt working properly?

I e-mailed euro reef's warranty dept and am waiting for a response, but I think I may have to wait till monday. If anyone has any advice I woudl really appreciate it!

thanks!

take care,
Jared

Take the skimmer out and disassemble the pump. Pull the impeller out and see if anything is stuck in there.

Put it back togehter, then test it out in a bucket of SW.

Let us know what happens. :)

Jim

hey now Jim!

thanks for the reply. I took the impeller out and reassembled. No problems. I put back together and tried it again and nothing. Just an extreme amount of back pressure and zero bubbles...plain water.

So Jim since the venturi and airtube are clean without obstructions do you think it is the impeller?

thanks!

take care,
Jared

Is there noise coming from the airline when its on?

If not, it has to be the impeller.

Does the pump sound like its functioning properly?

Jim
