so the pump does work...as it is pumping water into the body right??

blow into the air tube for like 1-2seconds while it is up and running and see what happens.

sounds like the venturi isn't pulling for some reason...try the blowing while running and see what happens.

hey now guys,

Yeah I would think that the pump works perfectly. The water level in the skimmer is as it should be. This is the strangest thing. Lunchbucket I will try blowing in the tubing.

How could the venturi not be pulling in air?

strange huh?

thanks guys i really appreciate your help on this saturday. I don't think I will be hering from euro-reef till monday.

Ok Ill let you know what happens.

take care,
Jared

jared - where is the water levels in the skimmer body??

i wouldn't expect a response from a vendor over the weekend. i'd wait till monday or tues at the latest.

Ok tried blowing into it,

Got just a tiny bit of bubbles. The sump has six inches of water in it yet the pump is drawing in air form the surface. There is an odd noise but I think thats what the noise is. This is strange because I ran my old euro-reef cs80 with six inches int he sump and it NEVER sucked in air from the surface.

shucks....this is really a bummer.

So you guys think this is an impeller issue?

i think it's a venturi issue. if you are getting very little bubble in the skimmer even when blowing through it.

take the pump out, the air line off and drill out the venturi (where the airl line slips over) 3/16 is the biggest you can get. start small and work your way up. if you can't get to 3/16 w/out breaking through the side get as close as you can. sounds like your venturi is clogged w/ plastic or something.

if the pump is sucking more water then your old one (will do this if it isn't pulling air) then you might get a vortex on the surface and it will get some air in there.

drill and report back

hey now lunchbucket,

I have the riser tube set the lowest it can go. The water level is about two inches udner the twist off union....right where the pvc is welded. from what I remember running my old euro reef this was the normal level when the riser was at its lowest setting. When I raise the riser up a bit the water level rises also... so seems its working fine but no bubbles...clear water with tons of back pressure.

take care,
Jared

hey lunch,

you think I need to drill even though I can run a toothpick through the venturi no problems? I also ran water through it and it poured out of the venturi.

it wouldn't hurt to double check it

is the front of the pump on correctly? mated up to the front of the pump. those two things are the only things i could think of that wouldn't cause suction for the air.

post some pics of the pump it that doesn't work.

hey now lunch,

Yeah the venturi is matche dup perfectly with the pump. I blew into it again and got some bubbles from blowing but they were thing and dissipated as sonn as I stopped blwoing.

I put my finger inside the venturi as it was running and it made a funyn noise but did draw some air...and again as soon as I withdrew my finger bubbles dissipated and nothing.

So its the impeller that draws in the water and makes the pump work right? The pump is working then...so your right its gotta be a venturi issue but I just dont get it!!

Nothing is blocking the air access!

I am correct in that the venturi is sealed or glued to the pice that connects to the pump right? I was thinking maybe it was backwards...the manuel says if it is backwords it wont work.

thanks lunch for trying to help me!

i'm w/ clkwrk take pics

did you drill out the venturi? maybe there isn't enough space in that hole to causes a draw in?? like a 1/2 clogged hole?

Lunchbucket

ok pics will be up shortly,

I havent drilled yet lunch...I am a bit nervous to do so. I dont want euro-reef to say it voids the warranty or something like that if I mess it up.

We have company over now. I will get pics up around 9pm eastern tonight.

Thanks again guys for helping me out!

Here is a shot of my 65 DSB softie reef that I hope to have the cs80 running on. I just upgraded from a 50.

It was Euro Reef that recommended that we drill out the venturi's to get some more airflow .

bingo!

hey now guys!

Ok company has left and now I can toy with this skimmer. I should have known lunch wouldn't steer me in the wrong direction. I will attempt to drill now. I took a few pics too!

I'll report back soon.

Thanks again guys!

hey now guys,

ok some progess I think. I drilled the venturi to 3/16. Its drawing air! Problem is now its making a loud noise....exactly how a pump sounds when it is drawing in air from the surface. A very loud noise. When I put my finger over the tubing the noise stops...but as soon as I release my finger form the tubing the noise is back.

heheee...so now I am getting air but have a horrible noise.

I hope I didnt make a mistake drilling the venturi. I took the bit all the way down to the bottom of the venturi...so underneath the venturi hole the bit drilled into the circle part. Would that be a problem?

let me get some pictures up!

Mine has a valve on the end of the tube, is the valve open?
