Just wanted to share the first skimmate of my rs-180,

12 hours after adding 80 lbs of live rock:

24 hours:

As a matter of fact I'm looking for advice on how to reduce or eliminate the smell it's so bad you can smell it as soon as you get into the house, someone suggested using kalk powder inside the recollection cup, I may use the recollection jug or bucket with a carbon air filter, but open to suggestions.

you can put a little bit of kalk powder in the cup after you clean, it helps break down the skimmate and reduces the smell.

Cool. Eheims on the RC skimmers. These are 1260s or 1262s? Will this make it to the CS/RS later on?

I have a brand new never been wet yet RS250. I want to get the new SP5 impeller for it. Any news when the upgrade will be available?

What made you decide on the Aquabee 2001? Is it better performance? Hows the noise level compared to the stock pump? Did you have to do any modifications?

Nuuze, no modifications if you put the outlet of the pump directly into the 1/2" uniseal... its a nice snug fit. This also eliminates the elbow which can cut down on performance.

The Aquabee pumps are German-made and very reliable, Deltec and H&S have been using them for years. The Aquabee 2001 draws only 21 watts yet delivers 480 lph of air... about 15% more performance with 20% less draw. Slight improvement over the Sedra, plus its a little smaller and quieter IMO.

Thanks dgill! I have a CS100 I think uses the same pump as the CS80. I may upgrade once my bio-load gets bigger. Its a big plus since its smaller and quieter.

Nuuze, here you can see how to mount the pump. BTW, this is an H&S Aquabee... later I'll post pics showing DAS and Aquabee pump side-by-side for comparison. The Aquabee pump would be PERFECT for the ER CS100!

i would just suggest doing the gate valve mod now and not even mess w/ the riser pipe. i think it is 1 1/4" PVC pipe on teh 5-3's. you should be able to find plenty of info on the gate valve mod on RC.

I have a used CS6-2 plus on my 135 gallon and I love it, my sedra 5000 pump just quit on my though My question is....why do the modification of the ball valve? will it make that much difference in the running of the skimmer than the sliding pipe with the sponge on it?
