All the gate valve does is allow you to run a little wetter skimate. in stead of running a standard dry skimate, but on mine if i run to wet it will over fow in the sump......

Is the new needle wheel going to be a thread wheel?
I would guess to say It will probably be at least a year or 2 before they share that patent. if you want a thread wheel DIY or buy BM.

quick questions guys. my skimmer is pulling our very wet skimate. is this normal and if not, how can i stop it? everything seems to be working fine but it is just so watery and clear, not thick and dark green.

omaha - do you have a gate valve mod or the riser pipe? where do you have the pipe set? where is the water line at in teh skimmer?

did you add anything like gel binded food, antibiotics, aquastick putty??

did this just happen? how old is the skimmer?

What is the opinion on running two skimmers?
I have a 75 gallon w/ a 30 cube plumbed into the same 30 gallon sump with a 20" ES5-2. I think it was fine for the 75 but now overworked with my bio load. I have the opportunity now to buy a used ES5-2 that I will be able to fit in my sump. I can't go over 20" because of the height of the stand so I figure two 20" skimmers would be better than nothing.

What do you think?

Yeah, IMO, 2 small skimmers are better than 1.

Because of your restrictions, this may be the best way to go.

I had the same problem when I first got into the hobby. After going through 3 stands, all a little bigger than the one before, I built a stand that is 40" and 24" wide. now I can fit whatever I want to down there :)

Does anyone have the RS-80?
do you like it?

How does it rate in terms of noise? (noise of air being sucked into the venturi, and noise from the pump like a hum)?
TIA

i was orignally gonna get an rs 135 for my 90g sps/lps tank .. but a lfs had an rs 80 on their 90g that had 18 fish and tons of sps... it was workin soo good..

should i be fine with an rs 80 or rs100 instead of the rs 135?
