No, those are for the SP5 (Gen-X 6000). I just had the meter on it and I'm getting ~ 20LPM. I'm trying to figure out when there is too much air for the body/neck to handle. If I cut the air back, I can get finer bubbles in the neck. It seems to be a fine balance.

Trying to find some of the silicone grease used with the o-rings. Went to home depot today and they didn't have anything but spray silcone libricant. Anyone have an example of what I should be asking for?

try a dive shop...they'll know what you're lookin for.

I like the fine bubbles in the neck. IMHO This tells me the bubbles are not popping and merging. More surface area to carry proteins to the top and out. That is some impressive air pull on a NW.

What do most people use to supply water to the recirc skimmer? Also how loud are these skimmers, I really need something silent? Thanks

original-reefland,

The Spectrapure guys once told me to go to a whirlpool shop and get the stuff they use. He claims it is very inert and safe for our tanks.

which impeller is the new one? the black or the white. i just got an rs80 from premium aquatics and it has the black impeller

So your saying ER has just introduced some new models? or did hey just update some changes?

If i were to buy a ER skimmer, what mods do people feel are worth doing? I kinda interupted that with the new design you wouldn't need to do a gate mod?

Thanks!

The black impellers are new. They have been out since November or so and anything new comes with them. They make more of a difference on Rx135 and up. If the skimmer has the new wedge pipe outlet, there is no benefit of adding a gate valve.

sjm817,
What do you mean by the wedge pipe outlet? I'm getting ready to buy a RS250. I was going to get the gate valve, but if I don't need it I won't. Also will the new skimmer already have the larger airline or do i need to get this.

Don't listen to me about the airline. I'm still trying to determine if it makes any real difference in skimming. For now, Id say just remove the airtap, use the stock airline and see how it goes. I'm still trying different things and it seems that once broken in and wide open, the nearly 20LPM may be too much anyway.

The wedge pipe is an adjustable outlet type that ER has started to use. You dont need a gate valve if it has it. I would check with the vendor you buy it from and ask if it has it. Premium Aquatics is a great vendor to deal with. You're in Indiana, so even better for you.

Good luck in the big game today!

I'm picking it up from Premium Aquatics next week. I get all my equipment there. I agree, they are great to deal with.

GO COLTS!!!!

But what about the pumps? Are the pumps on all the ER different? I was looking on both Premium Aquatics and ER's site and do not see any mention of different pumps, or this new wedge valve?

So what models are different again? :)

So I wound up with an old style ER RS8-2(I believe). And found that the Sedra 5000 was a little underpowered and I was not excited about the performance. I just slapped a Gen-X 6000 on it and am waiting for the break in.

I was just curious if anyone else had done this... Is the increase in pump too much for this skimmer or was this a good switch. It's a standard Gen-x, not a ER modded one... So far it does not seem like there is too much turbulence in the neck... I'm waiting for the new pump to break in so I can adjust the water level.
