The EuroReef is not designed to have an external collection cup. I wanted to do the same mod to my EuroReef and was told definitely not too. This thread explains it.
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=576552

while i did not look at the linked thread, my 12-2 came with a collection cup drain installed from the start. it was shipped directly from Euro-Reef so it's obviously an acceptable practice.

i would not install a drain but hta tis me. i would not want my skimmer overflowing and dumping gallons into a container or on my floor. this could mess up flooring or mess w/ your SG.

docjay - nice idea! that is one hella huge skimmer. got pics of it up and running??

Dragon slayer, Do you have any photos? Is it just a threaded barb fitting? Thanks, Tim

and old one from my gallery dated 2003 :)...... you can see the barbed fitting that ER had installed. at the time of this pic it wasn't drilled. it was an option for you to drill if you wanted remote collection. i drilled and added a JG gate valve and use it for draining prior to removing the cup solely because i try to clean the cup every day or two at the most. i do not run it to a collection 'bucket' simply because i do not have space in my sump for one.

Oh yeah, it's not threaded it's permanently glued they just leave the PVC bottom of the cup undrilled so you have the option.

Jay,
any reason you went with the taller cs8-5-rc rather than the shorter cs-12-1-rc or cs-12-2-rc? Both the8-5 and 12-1 have 300+ gallon ratings and are fairly close in price. Just curious.

Hi Guys,
The pic is as big as i can make it and still come in under the 50kb upload limit to my gallery. I went with the taller version because I wanted to be able to push more water thru the unit. Since the outlets are on the bottom of the skimmers, I figured the taller unit would let me push more water thru it before it starts to force bubbles out to the sump.

could someone with a cs 6 / what the diameter of the neck is ( i am assuming the top of the neck in the collection cup is the same size )

Hey guys/gals, took the time while i've got my 180g down for the new stand i'm building to do a little work on the 12-2. i spoke with Jeff at ER about doing a RC mod to it and he said doing half a mod would improve skimming and a full mod would do wonders. well i had the parts for 1/2 the mod and ordered enough to finish it up to a full one but they haven't made it in yet, here are a few pics of the progress so far. the intent is to feed the skimmer with a Mag 3 pumping from the 'Anthony Calfo Raw Water' input chamber i'm going to make in the new sump.

Well i hate to do this as it has been asked before, but I need to know what size fittings to get for a gate valve mod on my 8-1.

Ive searched but just dont have the time to look through so many pages.

Looks goos do far. I would recommend to gravity feed the skimmer from the overflow. You might see much better results. I gravity feed my 8-2 Rc Beta skimmer and I get TONS of skimmate.

Jim

gravity feeding from the overflows IME gives fluctuations in water level in the skimmer due to air bubbles in the overflow plumbing as the water drains from the display. the Mag 3 will be feeding raw overflow water (hence the Anthony Calfo design) to the skimmer so it's the same water but at a constant/consistent rate.

Hope it works out for you. I will say that I do not experience water level fluctuation in my skimmer because I use two ball valves to regulate the water flow. Good luck

Jim
