Hello,
I know most on here are Euro-Reef fans, but hopefully I can get an unbiased opinion. I am trying to decide between buying a ER RC135 or an H&S A150. The RC135 is $500 and the H&S is $650. Which would you go for? Oops almost forgot, it will be for a 125gal that will have a heavy bioload.

Thanks,
Carlos

Looks like raising it until the water level is about 3.5" to 4" from the base of the ER did the trick. I'm now getting thick fairly dry skimate because of this. All I need to do now is put that gate valve mod to control how wet I want the ER to run. Can someone varify the pipe diameter of 1.25"?

I will check later, I really don't know off hand. :)

The gate valve will allow you to use pretty much any water height in the sump -- I tested last night and even at 12" sump water height, no problem once I tweaked the gate valve a little. Same true at 4" height, although my return pump wasn't too happy with that. :) Once the gate valve is in place I don't think it will matter for you if you have the stand or not -- you can raise or lower the bubble height to pretty much anywhere you want it along the neck of the skimmer.

My only skimmer is a CS6-1 bought new a few years ago. I am looking at new skimmers for my 125 and it will probably be H&S. I guess you could call my opinion biased because it is the only skimmer I have ever used. The deciding factor for me are those darn Chinese needlewheel pumps. My Sedra pump has been by far the worst performing piece of equipment in my entire reef setup. I placed it on UPS power due to its inability to restart itself. When I am forced to clean it (which is often) restarting it can be a major ordeal. I have two Ehiem pumps for return that have never been cleaned and always restart. I have read countless postings about problems with Euroreef pumps and as of late, they canââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t seem to decide which pump to go with. Euroreef started out using Ehiem pumps. I have seen a few still around and running the original pump. Honestly I think their skimmer construction is top notch, I just donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t need another pump that I have to baby to keep running. If ER were to offer a higher quality pump option I might change my mind.

Ummmm...where did the EuroReef forum go or am I blind?

Wait...nevermind I read the post on the RC feedback and questions forum.

Why isn't ER making their skimmers with Eheims anymore? I used to own an ER with an EHeim and that thing really skims.

Euro-Reef does not have a site anymore. Apparently there was an ugly scene on a thread with a customer and they elected not to participate on RC any longer. If you look earlier in this thread you will see a comment regarding this from their COO.

Regards,

Pat

Something when sour between ER and Eheim don't know the details.

Guess I am now a member. I got a modified CS6-1 on my 120gal. I added a limewood airstone to it. And I soon hope to have a larger euro reef. And I will do the same mod to it.
