I will be officially in the club this week. Got a used cs12-2RC off ebay for $375 shipped, plus 2 used sedra 5000's with needle whell and all set up to use on cs12-series skimmer (way too coincidental) for about $190 shipped for the pair, so a total of about $570 for 12-2 RC, not a bad deal, eh?
My current skimmer is a southbay cs12-1 knock off.

Ok, question for you guys. I temporarily set up my 12-2RC out in the drive way, filled with water and just had the 2 RC pumps running. I was extremely disappointed in the bubble production. To me it looked like normal bubbles from any pump with an air line attached to it. They were large and not very many. Definately didn't look like any pics I have seen of a skimmer in action. Anyone know what could be the problem?

you have freshwater in the skimmer. skimmers don't work with freshwater, they only work with salt water.

They may not produce skimmate, but the pumps should still produce plenty of bubbles. They type of water doesn't affect the needle wheels.

Well, alrighty then. I knew freshwater wouldn't produce any skimmate, but I'm not sure why it would reduce the amount of bubbles. But, I'll take your word for it! :-)

the surface tension of fresh water is COMPLETELY different. you will get LOTS more bubbles and a LOT finer/smaller bubbles once you fire it up in salt water.

I have a er cs6-2+ and was wondering if there is a place to buy a gate valve kit so it would match in color?
My LFS got both of mine through ER. They used to be on H2Otropicals page, but it hasn't been up in a while.

Hello all, hope its ok to post this here,I am getting ready to buy a ER CS12-2 skimmer and was wondering if a sump thats 20"(L)*20"(W)*16"(H) would be ok to fit this skimmer?I ve read that depending on the set-up the footprint on this pump may vary from the 18"by 18" to 16" by 20".

Also my stand which is not yet built will be 35" high is this ok for this skimmer?? Thanks.

You should be able to make it, you can always move the skimmer around till it sits in. And 35" is fine as the skimmer is 30" and needs little clearance. As long as the inside height of your stand from the bottom of the sump to the ceiling of the inside of the sump is more than 30"

hello, I recieved my 8-1 today and couldnt be more happy. I do have a few questions.

1. What is the ideal water depth the skimmer shoud be run in? or does it matter?
2. What is the tube of silicone for?
3. The air line is making some serious gurgling sounds. Any way to make this stop?

Thanks in advance for any help

Is the silicone like grease or more like a sealant? They may be sending silicone to lubricate the o-ring. I think they should be in 6-8 inches of water. Don't know about the gurgling sound since all the other stuff on my tank is louder.
Steve

the silicone must be for the O ring, I didnt think about it at first.

I have mine in 10inches of water so maybe i should raise it up a bit???

The gurgling is coming from the air line and i havnt had it with any other venturi skimmer i have had. Anybody have this problem or know a way to get rid of it?
