Definatly make it as big as possible. I've got mine in a 10g sump and there is not much room for adjustment/movement. I'd like to take it out of the sump, but its BEAR to get in there man. Make it bigger than the front to back dimension of a 10g tank.

Im planning on ordering my CS12-2 in the next few weeks and I had to get a custom sump with space for a 18'*18" skimmer footprint(made sump 20*20),anyone got any pics of the CS12-2??This thing must be huge!

1. What is the ideal water depth the skimmer shoud be run in? or does it matter?

it should say in your instructions. my ES5-2 said 6-8" i think

2. What is the tube of silicone for?

lube the o-ring to limit leaks

3. The air line is making some serious gurgling sounds. Any way to make this stop?

mine doesn't gulp...it it hardly noticable

get pics when it is up and running

you could make a silencer for the venturi....

Take a old prescription bottle, drill a hole in it to fit the venturi tubing, drill a couple more holes on the opposite end, and fill the bottle with polyfilter.

break-in period for CS5-2

break-in period for CS5-2

I just bought a Euro-Reef CS5-2. Just wondering if anyone out there knew...

1. how long was the break in period. My skimmer is still foaming like crazy all the way to the top of the collection cup even with the riser tube on the lowest height. Its been like this since Thursday night.....until tonight, Sunday. Is that too long?

2. Has anyone noticed that the CS-5-2's riser tube is significantly longer that the one on the old ES5-2 (my old skimmer)?

Any info would be great.
Thanks

Have you put in any additives or water conditioners? Those things make skimmers go crazy. Did you remember to rinse it out in the bathtub before placing in sump? These are two things that can really cut back on the "break in" time for these skimmers. I wouldn't worry too much yet.

As for the neck, I don't know, I have a ES 5-2.

Good luck buddy.

Thanks. No, I didnt put any new additives. Ive been using my trusty ES5-2 but recently switched. I did rinse it out in the bathtub briefly. How many days have people's euro-reef skimmers typically take to break-in?

house, yes its normal and yes there is a break in period. relax sit back and let it do its magic.

Anyway here are the requested photos:

Thanks for tip on how to silence this. Im really concerned more with why its doing it. I had an 8-1 before this, and no noise. Whats up with that?

maybe check the venturi for a clog, I doubt it's clogged, but I don't know what else it could be. Something else I was thinking about that could possibly add noise is the depth of the pump. 10" seems pretty deep to me. Raise that puppy up as far as you can, who knows.

My thinking is this, on my 5-2, If i'm right next to the skimmer, I can hear it sucking in air. Now you've got a bigger skimmer and pump combination. It's obviously sucking in more air than you're used to. I don't think anything is wrong with your pump. Venturi's are just inherantly a noisy peice of equipment.

The silencer WILL work.

Rest easy my friend.

hey thanks for the help. Im not really worried about the function of the skimmer, its just a bit loud. Nothing I cant get over, but I wonder why it is this way when all my other venturi's have been nothing like this. hmmm.

I tried the silencer and it didnt work very well. Granted i threw it together in five minutes. Ill try again tomorrow.

Also, I raised the skimmer to a depth of six inches. It didnt do anything for the gurgling sound. Is there any way to get a hold of euro reef, to ask about this?

Gate Valve Assembly

Gate Valve Assembly

I just tried using the gate valve assembly (DIY)... and I'm having a problem regardless if I dial the gate valve all the way shut, or leave it all the way open, that I'm getting too much water in the the collection cup and it's over flowing it immediately.

I am still getting LOTS of foam either way. How do I lower the water level? Do I need to change the size of one of the tubes of the assembly? Should it be increased? Decreased?

Thanks in advance for your help.

thank you both. i currently have the 9000 but i think it's too much for 8-2. i'm going to replace it with the 5000 and keep it "stock".
