phishlet, based on your video, the water level is a little to high. on the video from time to time i see the border of water and bubbles rising in the neck? what's your salnity?

Salinity is 1.025. I guess I could lower the riser a bit. Here's a new pic. I had cleaned out the cup this AM and here's how it looked later this evening.

Did ER go back to their "regular" union connection? I see in Whaase's pictures there's a large union thing, but the band around where the body connects to the neck is a relatively new ER feature, right?

I personally have no idea, maybe cause mine's a baby ER? :D

I think it depends. Mine was new and custom made, so I got the new style bayonet fitting. However, some of the units were probably made a while back. These are the ones with the old union.

it looks fine and will be pulling more as it further slimes - bubble level is subjective (opinions) based on how dry/wet you like it
but one thing seems obvious to me - if euroreef says use 6-8 inches; why do you persist with 12 inches - 4 inches deeper than their manual says? i betcha a dollar that would be the first thing ER would advise to help your surging issue if they ever returned your call and you still had the issue. I am betting that there is a thing going on where backpressure is building up somewhat and releasing in spurts because of your water level.

I don't "persist" on keeping it in 12 inches of water. I can't permanently lower the water level unless I took out my liverock/sand/refugium altogether. But I did temporarily lower the water level to 8 inches. See my post on the previos page where I already said I had lowered the water and it had no effect on the pump.

i have a cs8-3 in my sump, system has a total of about 135 gals...

i see everyones ERs putting out a full collection cup of really dark skimmate sometimes every day. mine has been in the sump for 9 days and i havent emptied it, and the skimmate is far from dark enough...

im pretty sure this will be a trial and error type deal so does anyone have and ideas? water level? venturi? anything that would help...there isnt a very large amount of food going into the system, FOWLR with a 4" picasso, 2" dogfaced puffer, 2" niger trigger, and some damsels...

thanks

I just want to be clear on something, the outflow tube that is adjustable, all the way down is dry skimmate and all the way up would be, well, very wet? I have mine all the way down and it seems pretty wet.. is there something I'm missing?

Walter

that true, all the way down dry and up wet. maybe u have stress coat or other solvents in water makes the skimmer go crazy

It almost seem like the foam is more like Champaign bubbles, where it should be more like beer froth :D

I really am considering becoming a member real quick here. Where is the best online price you have found? Looking for a 6-2 or 6-2+.

Shouldn't be, but they made it go nuts... Seems to be working a bit better today... guess it just takes several days.
