i got a 120g reef ready tank with a dart pump closed loop. i am looking for a skimmer and can anybody tell me the difference or preference between the asm and euroreef skimmers? both skimmers come with the sendr pumps and physically they look the same, the biggest dirrerence i see is the cost. can anybody help me with this? thanks jody

They are the same design. ASM designed the Euroreef skimmers for Euroreef. They are just made out of different materials. From what I gather, the Euroreef is buil better and sturdier. I have an ASM G3 skimmer on my 125 Gal reef ready tank and it works awesome. I get about an inch and a half of black/green chunky skimmate. Stinks like a nasty fart too ;)

smcnally...is that each day that you get that skimmate? And how big across is the skimmate cup? I'm trying to get a sense of how efficient my skimmer is...thanks.

By the way, I am feeding the body of it from my overflow and it has a recirculation mod done to it that you can read about on ASMs website.

how much skimmate would your asm make before the recirculation mod?

I never used it without the mod. I did it right out of the box. I've heard it still does a good job without it though.

My G3 is completely stock and it does a wonderful job. I have it set to dry skim somewhat and it produces about a 1/2 to 3/4 cup a day of nasty, greenish/black semi wet foam that could gag a maggot off a trash truck!

The G3 would be plenty for a 120 reef and the G4X would definately fit the bill. I would go with a G4X if I had the room but I'm still very satisfied with the G3.

I have a asm g-2 on my 110 works great I would have got the g-3 but did not have the room in my sump. The price differance to up grade to a g-3 or g-4 is worth the money. I had a 500 dollar aqua-c and changed it out for the g-2 It blows it out of the water!!!!!!

smcnally:

Looks like you did not install the gate valve mods, is it unnecessary with gravity-fed input? Maybe by installing it, the flow through the skimmer will be further reduced, which is undesirable. Have you encountered any problem adjusting the skimmer with gravity-fed input?

I haven't had any issues adjusting it. It's been at the same setting since the second day. I did plan on installing the gat mod, but figured if it is working well now, then why change it.
