As said above ER's will skim but need more adjustment and venturi maint and ER's comment about you must be doing someting wrong, what happened to their claim "Plug and Play"?

No kidding. Plug and play... yeah right. I was sending pictures to Euroreef and measuring things for them. Measuring things like how far from the top of the riser tube the water line was. How far doown into the chamber the air bubbles were etc. For one day I was told it was better to run the riser tube all the way down... but then the next day it was "well you really need pull it up much higher to lower the water level"....

Damn.
I wish this thread existed before I bought my RS135. At least I got a good deal on it, but what's that worth to me if it doesn't pull out anything more than my turboflotor 1000 did :(

Granted, I have a 29 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump so the skimmer is overkill and will not be efficient, but i was expecting more than water in the collection cup. The throat gets really nasty though, but hell, that's what the t1000 did.

yea im glad as well that i heard it before buying it. it seems like h&s deltect and bubbleking are the only reasonable but expensive choices for effective skimming

wow i did not hear that about ER. all the comments i heard was that it is comparable to deltec. i am looking at the h&s 150-f2001 because i am concerned about the cheap nature of there so called quality meets performance model.
For $50 more, you have better control over your skimming and probably around 15%-20% better performance because of better control. I recommend the H&S A150 instead and you can install this recirculating skimmer in sump or externally. HTH Also, sent you a PM with more info about choices.

thanx ucandoit i read it and since i was considering it as a third option i might just do that. when i started the tank 3 months ago i bought a css125 pause for laughs. then i "upgraded" to the 220 model. but considering the stocking list of a coral beauty angel a yellow tang 2 yellowtail damsels a mandarin dragonet a clown fish and 4 anthias. i think a real skimmer is necessary.

LOL. There are 2 tangs and 6 lyretail anthias in my 125... oh and a porcupine puffer too... and some of their buddies. You'd think there would be some crud to skim out. :)

even with my css220 i get dark skimate and i only have four fish right now so it must have been something ese and to ucandoit i sent another question
