That sounds about where my skimmer was with the 7. With the 9.5 it runs the water level up to about 1/4 inch up the tube. Not enough to overflow the skimmer or slow down bubble production. I think the extra flow generates extra bubbles which in turn creates more backpressure. That backpressure should be enough to keep the skimmer from overflowing.

The only time I've had a problem with it overflowing was when I used a bunch of epoxy to mount frags. The thing went nuts. It was a good thing that I had something to catch the overflow because it filled a gallon a day for two days straight.
