evaporation or ?

i just started my sump yesterday around this time 4:30PM. i marked the level on the return side for monitoring. 24 hours later, the water level has dropped 2 inches which is roughly equal to 1 gallon. is it likely that the tank could evaporate that much over 24 hours. i have checked all plumbing connections and there are no leaks that i can see or feel. the pictures below show water on the sump cover and my markings to indicate level. the sump is in the garage and is cooler than the water..

any thoughts would be appreciatted and hopefully make me feel better......

I average about 2 1/2 gals a day with my rimless 105 gal With Metal Halides. I will LYK the difference once the LED's are on.

good, now i can relax a little, didnt lose much water before i added the sump, i will try to get some pics out over the next coupele of days.....thanks for the knowledge

Correct me if I am wrong, but it is all the exposed surface area/waterflow/lighting that attributes to the amount you lose.

Jennifer. No correction needed. When I don't have my sump covered I lose 2-3 gallons a day. As much as 25 a week. Half that when I have it covered. And the heaters run less.
