everyones thought on a biodenitrator

Interesting.....I've never heard of one that didn't require feedings of Carbon sources before.

Have you thought about the midwest aquatic one? I asked the guy a ton of questions last night and he was super fast on all replies. In addition, while reading about them, a lot people had the midwest aquatic one and they talked constantly about customer service, etc...They have a 120 day no questions asked and a 2 year warranty.
I'm thinking about getting one and running it in sump
 
do they work well in general? how often on average do you have to change out the media?

Do you have a copy of the transcript of all the questions PMsyou asked?

I'll look for it but it was via email. I should have it though.

I don't believe you have to change out the media. However, if you do, it is a couple of years but apparently changes easily. ( believe this is the big difference between the regular one and the sulfer one.

Can be run in sump if space is a problem which is for me.
 
Have you ever dosed sugar? Works very well in keeping nutrients and PO4 low. Very easy to do and your skimmer will work alot better.

Any idea of where I should expect my calcium to be in an SPS tank that is medium stocked on a 120g while using this. I'd like it to be between 420-500ppm
I'm curious if I could keep that without using my reactor.
Calc should stay between 4 and 5 hundred with just the sulfur denitrifier.

The dissolved calcium will keep the dkh in that range. It won't drop it.

Do I have to have to tube coming from the main display? Or can I get it from the sump?

How often is the sulfur and the media need to be changed and how is it changed
The sulfur will last approx. 2-3 years and the media will need to be added as dissolved, approx. 6 weeks. Easy to remove the top is all that is needed

Will my PH fall so low that I'll have to start dosing a PH buffer?
PH will drop if you do not aerate the effluent. It is just like a calcium reactor in that way

No, it can run in OR out of sump

Well, I just ordered one. They guy has some of the best customer service I've seen! Can't wait to try it out. I'm going to be using it without my calcium reactor. If I can keep it at 400-500 and 8-12dkh I don't really see a need for the reactor. In addition, I'm not going to be adding cheato as I don't hink it will be needed since I'll also be running a phosban reactor. I'll keep everyone updated.
 
err also, I typically subscribe to the bigger is better school. in this cas bigger IS better right? it would lower the nitrates fast, and keep thm lower right?
 
Actually, I did not get the XL due to a lot a reasons.

#1- $140 more
#2- Limited in space
#3- This will be on a 120 with a 40g sump. I asked him what the advantage of going to the XL minus if I would upgrade my tank. He told me honestly, there isn't really a need to go up to the xl. I think the recommendations are accurate (not like skimmers)
 
However, I saw a thread in which he upgraded someones to a XL with no extra charge so he could get it to him by that friday. In that case, I'd be happy to make room for the XL :D
 
Just a thought, have you looked at Calfo's dsb in a bucket for nitrate control? Seems very simple and very cost effective. I'm just setting one up so I can't say how well it woks but I'm hoping.
