Exasperated with Communication

Let me start by saying that the ProfiLux is a great product. The team provides great support, and the user community here is really a superb bunch!

My controller works great. However, I have struggled to get communication running robustly.

I was able to set up e-mail alerts, but didn't realize that Control needed to be running for Alerts to work. Since I don't have a PC to dedicate 100% to the ProfiLux, I went for Plan B, which was to set up Remote Access.

So, I purchased the LAN Card and added it to my ProfiLux. Thanks to some supreme help from one of the GHL super users, I was able to get the card running (including set up a dyndns.org account to deal with the changing IP).

I can control the ProfiLux from my desktop PC via LAN, and I can do the same via IP with my wireless laptop from home.

HOWEVER -- the remote acess, what I really need --- whenever I take that same laptop out of the house, I cannot connect to the ProfiLux. I've tried from work, and I've tried at a local eatery with Wi-Fi. No luck.

Anyone have a suggestion? I am open to ideas! If I can't get it to run, anyone want to trade me a cheap PC for a GHL LAN card? :D

2 this come to mind....

- only one session of profilux is allowed at a time
- are you doing the port translation on your router for port 10001

Thanks, but You omitted one fact, I can connect at will to your device, so the problem is within your laptop and nowhere else......

One suggestion go a friend house, connect your laptop and turn off any firewall and try it there. It has to be firewall related they can anything else.

Yes, kidney is right, the problem is with my client (laptop). And I am aware of the "only one login at the time" rule.

I'll double check my router on the port translation...

As Lorin says if others can connect this is NOT a ProfiLux issue but an issue solely related to your own personal devise.

loirn's advise is spot on, go to a friends house and connect there.

Hope that helps and we are all here to help you always

Best wishes
Michael

Your router is correct also, I can login, so that prove that your router is OK

Port forwarding on the router is set to 10001. Configuration in the Control software also set to 10001.

I've already gone to a outside location and couldn't connect.
Yes, but public and work location have most of the time very limited ports opened, that I why I suggest that you go to someone you know and turn off their firewall and try from there.

yep most likely port blocking.... or throttling.

if it’s port blocking you can do a small and easy fix...

try changing the port forwarding from port 80 on the outside to port 10001 on the inside....

once done, create a new connection in Profilux control and change the port to 80.

If is speed throttling, that’s a bit harder and you would have to implement some kind of vpn/tunnel to establish the connection as most ISP do not throttle encrypted traffic...
