Good Morning Everyone, Last night the Divers Den got this guy in. I have never seen a harlequin that looked like this guy. Just wondering if anyone here has seen or has one like this.

Well, I got him, along with another pair of harlequins. I lost my last pair about 6 months ago, due to a mean exquisite wrasse. (well, mean or hungry). I gad that pair for over a year, and I have missed them ever since they became dinner. I am very excited about getting these new shrimp, especially the Hawaiian Harlequin. It has such a different color pattern than I have ever seen.

Oh, yeah. These will be going into a species tank. Currently it will be a 12 gallon A.P.
But I plan on moving them to an Elos Mini later in the year.

I have never seen one like it before either.
I am so glad that I got her before she was snatched up.
I get her for $129.99
And I got a Pair of H. Elegans with Blue Spots for $79.99

They all will be here on Tuesday. I am so excited

I agree, I'm so jealous, but $130's a bit too much lol.

What time of the day do orders from liveaquaria usually arrive? Just wondering cuz i bought two things the same time as you.

Well they all my harlequins will be here tomorrow. Megan will be acclimating them while I am at work. I am so excited. I cant wait to see that beautiful shrimp!!

Megan just got finished acclimating them for me. I just walked up to the house and checked out my little babies. These shrimp are gorgeous. The Picta is the most stunning Harlequin shrimp that I have ever seen. And the elegans pair meet up right away.
I decided to put them in my Elos. Luckily my angels did not bother them. They have settled in the rocks nicely. I will get some pictures up tomorrow. My camera is at Megans house.
I am so excited.

mcb125, I know of a diver in Hawaii that is liscensed to collect and sell, what are the odds of him finding more shrimp like your picta?
Nice snag, I'm looking to get a couple pairs myself. Can't wait to see your pictures.

I am not really sure how rare this color form is. I will get some pictures up tomorrow. I am on the lookout for a male Picta.

Wow! you'll have to keep us updated on these shrimp! They are beautiful! Are you trying to raise them (breeding?)? If you are I would like info on how you are doing... I have always wanted to try and raise Harley babies!

Those pictures with the starfish are brutal haha. Will they really take down a whole starfish for you?? Whenever I've had those in the past, I've always kept a separate tank with several C.C. stars to cut a small piece off to feed to the shrimp and rotate between stars so that the previous one can be regenerated.

Anyone ever have any luck getting them on any other foods??

GREAT lookin shrimp man.

I have had a few harleys in the past. I have always given them whole stars. My last pair could go through a 6 in CC Star in about a week and a half. I think it is so much more interesting to see them "attack" the star, flip it on its back, and start at an arm. Then move to another, then another.
I have never tried any other foods, but some sources say that when starfish are scarce, harlequins will eat the Tube feet of Urchins. (much like Bongo shrimp, or bumble bee shrimp.)

As for breeding, I would love to hatch out little ones. But currently I dont have enough time. Between School, Work, My tanks, and starting a business, I am swamped. It is definately something I will try in the future.
