wait, before I ask, EXCELLENT PICS AND BEAUTIFUL HARLEQUINS!!! I am obsessed with all three and the new one, beautiful.
Are the three showing aggression to eachother because I thought males would show aggression to eachother or only mated pairs shared eachothers food. I've never seen three sharing a star.
The three are getting along fine. As the pictures show they are sharing the starfish. I have seen no displays of aggression, and three three have been staying close together.

Wind-
I will get some more pictures later this weekend.
As for feeding, I buy starfish every week or so for my harlequins. I usually feed CC Stars, Linckia, Fromia, and Sand Sifting Stars. I have never had any issues in any of my reef tanks when feeding the "non-reefsafe" stars. All the shrimp have always aggressively "tackled" the stars. Once the stars are in the Shrimps' Grasp, they really have no chance.

Another VERY interesting point. I have been calling the Picta a female. But I got a brief glimpse of his underside, which was typical of a male.
In the picture of the three eating the star, you can se the small male and the Picta side by side. They were both touching, and eating the star, with no aggression what-so-ever.

This is a topic that is debated constantly. Some say that the Hymenocera Picta is just a color varient of the Hymenocera Elegans. Others say that they are two totally different species.
The Elegans usually have the baby blue or royal blue spots. The Picta usually has the brown, pink, or purple spots. But the coloration can vary, as evident with my Picta. She has Black Orange, and Dark Purple.

how long did it take your to come out initially? i just got one on sunday and havent seen it since. i have no wrasses or other shrimp eating fish. i have asterina stars for food. can get fromia star if shrimp is still ok. should i be worried?
Megan currently has a 39 gallon. It is one of the best looking LPS tanks Ive seen. She has an Aussie Duncan that is 10X12 and has over 75 heads.
Plus I just ordered her an Elos Mini. After Christmas she will be getting an Elos System 70.
As far as keeping more than one harley. Singles can be kept, but they will be more reclusive. If added in pairs they will be much more bold. All the Harleys Ive ever had are always out in the open.
