I went in today to do my regular weekend shopping...
They have a pygmy angle fish for $900....
I was going to buy it today but I want to make sure this is
a real deal. The mgr told me there is no return of anykind
on saltwater fish... what if if die the next day?
Just want to find out is it a good buy or a rib off.
Thanks.

I don't know of any LFS in the area that offers a return for saltwater fish so that's no big deal. There is, however, no way that I'd spend $900 on one fish ever.

One of the stores I deal with will put a 48 hour hold on a fish. If the fish is still in good health after 48 hours then I buy it.

yeah that's it. the interuptus or japanse pygmy angel. only if i was rich and could burn a thousand. if you can afford it very good deal though. and no ones trying to rip you off. that fish goes for 1200-1600 bucks.

knowing a fish could die in 1 week, I would never blow that much on a fish. Unless of course I made $200,000 a year thats different.

If your really interested in it, let them sit on it and see if it survives a week or so,and it probably will....stock that expensive is treated with exteme caution and care from the day it was caught......I doubt there is much of a market around here for that expensive of a fish and they will probably have it for awhile,(remember that "O" st still has the the black perculas and anenome)........

The others are correct, there is never a garuntee on saltwater fish be it a damsel or rare angel......

If your into the angels, check the Potters angel....it has some nice color to it.....and usually 1/10 the cost.....

I think its cool that they would offer such high end stuff, the chromis and damsel market is rather saturated around here.....Kudos.....

Yeah, kinda surprised to find rare fish at a LFS. I'm with beerguy, though, $1000 for a little angel fish is just too much; especially, if you don't know now it was caught, handled, etc. There are many other pygmy angels to look at. Matt (Wombat) prolly has a list off the top of head he could share with you.

here we go with another Exotic thread. this is a RARE PYGMY angel, its an Adult Interruptus for $900 and thats a good deal for the type of fish. You dont see this fish on a weekly shipment. I dont know anyone who offers returns on SW fish as well. I dont think they were tryong to rip you off.

I agree with you on that one, the Potters Angel, or as it is sometimes called, the Hawaiin Potters Angel (because of where it comes from :)) is a pretty nice looking fish. we are considering one for our new tank once it gets set up, but like all such angels, it is a crap shoot as to wether or not it will try to much on our corals and clams.

I don't get this. That fish though must be nice looking, isn't THAT nice looking? So what if it's supposedly "rare"?

Is it for bragging rights?

Yeah, you guys are right...

Yeah, you guys are right...

Like what they say: if you have to ask..means you cann't afford it.
Made me feel like I am only a second grade reefer.
buts its okay right? we all cheap...all of us living sac town.

the reason why some specimens are high in price such as this type of fish is because, its hard to find "RARE", its a nice looking fish, its a DEEPWATER fish and they are not often collected, and they are not located just in any reefs. Thats why prices for these types of fish are generally high in price. Its not for bragging although some collect rare specimens to do so, and some just collect rare specimens because its what they enjoy, just like others who collect LE sps's and other corals except its fish.

Many people dont like having the same exact thing as everyone alse and something that is rare is nice to have. If everyone wanted cheap, then all we would see is tanks with damsels, xenia, and GSP. I would love to have one of those if I could afford it. But I agree with Iz. Wait a while and go with the captive bred ones. Much less of a risk, better for the ocean, hardier, feeds on prepared foods, and in this case, cheaper too. .

the interuptus is there for a chance for people to take a gander at a rare good lookin fish, nelson just likes having it in the shop maybe it will sell maybe not
