Yeah, kinda surprised to find rare fish at a LFS. I'm with beerguy, though, $1000 for a little angel fish is just too much; especially, if you don't know now it was caught, handled, etc. There are many other pygmy angels to look at. Matt (Wombat) prolly has a list off the top of head he could share with you.

Scott

The one that really boggles my mind is the joculator angel. $600-$800 and it looks just like a bicolor!

This is the fish we're talking about unless anybody hasn't seen it. :)

For 1/20th of the price, you can get a C. acanthops. It's less likely to pick on corals too.

WHAT:eek2: You won't pay 600-700 more for the electic blue accents on the fins and around the eye  I'm with you on this one Matt :D

The Interruptus on the other hand is a hot fish. It's rare enough that you can assured it was handled right ;) No juice, 99.99% of the time proporly decom'd and treated with baby gloves thu out the COC.

I recall hearing the same thing about RTC, that bites :(

Interruptus are beautiful fish. I have a pair from RCT and they have been model citizens and are a sight to behold. Just recently, I have observed my pair courting each other. I definitely don't think Exotic was trying to rip anyone off. Here is my pair:

 WOW, what beautiful fish. Nice to see what they can look like in really good health!

BTW I have a Potters and it is a beautiful fish also but yours are just stunning!

Exactly what I would have said. :D I have heard they are out of business. A shame. :(
Where did you hear this from?

Shoulda grab it!!

Shoulda grab it!!

I have done my research and $900 for that is a steal.
Most members say not to get it.....WRONG.
No wonder all them fish stores call us cheap central.
Where the hell I am gonna find one for that price and size?

Re: Shoulda grab it!!

Not trying to flame you, but chill out. You asked for opinions, and people gave it to you. On the same day that you asked if it is a "good buy or a rib off", some people told you that the fish retails for $1200+. You don't act immediately in purchasing the fish. Someone else purchase the fish. 1.5 weeks later, you're irritate at the group. Give me a break.

And if it being cheap means that I don't purchase a $900 fish - then I am cheap. Sorry - but I rather spend $900 on other things that are more important to me.

Re: Shoulda grab it!!

you should done your research and decide on it yourself if $900 fish was for you. Don't blame the members, everyone has different opinion and not everyone cant justify a $900 fish.

If it was me, I would bought mine from RCT and would in the future because those are beautiful fish. But it seem RCT is going out which is to bad.

Also, People were giving you there "Opinion" on how they wouldn't pay that much for a fish.

You could of talked to the owners of exotic and say "hey, Id like to get that fish. Can you hold it for about 3 or 4 days and I come by to see it feed to make sure it lives". Not come on here and say a store is ripping you off when it just opened up.

For that expensive of a fish they may do that for you.

Do your research first, then if you can prove there price is a little high. Post it, Even if its high doesnt mean they are trying to "RIP" you off. They have overhead costs to cover and profit to make.

There was a thread in the fish breeding forum IIRC.

For the life of me, I cannot find that thread. Can someone please link it for me?

I still think that fish look like damsel. Just more exotic looking damsel. Again, I woulldnt pay more than 10 bucks that. Maybe the fish die and they said they sold it, who know. I don't think anyone would pay 900 bucks for the fish.

sang- how large is your pair? the specimen that exotic had was VERY large (about the size of my hand-- around 7" x 4" or so. i didn't know that they were THAT large!) but didn't have the 'bug eye' look i equate with all Centropyge species. plus, the colors were somewhat muted compared to pics i've seen of your pair and pics on RCT's site (and other sites).

no matter what, i'd rather buy a captive bred fish and watch it grow. i'd imagine there would be a bit of pride involved with raising it from a young age (the best i've done, so far, is raise my cinnamon tomato clown from it's two-stripe phase-- it's on it's third birthday, now).

That's cause it wasn't a thread devoted to it, but a comment in passing. :D I'll see if I can located it for you.

I hear ya Danny. Interruptus are actually one of the largest centropyges. They can get up to 7-8"! Mine are currently around 3"-3.5" or so. Raising them from a baby is truly rewarding. Here is a pic of the male when I first got him. He was no more than 1.5" long.
