Exotic's re-grand opening?

My wife and I went and it was AWESOME...

No salt yet, but the display is massive...

I got a White Diamond Discus for my FW tank and I was giddy.

The staff was very attentive and friendly, and the food was great. Yes I said food it was like a party.

I will be going back in a few weeks so I can check out the salt section and pick up a Golden Diamond Discus (I talked to there fish buyer and they are expected on the 11th). Oh and the live stock prices were amazing.

It seemed like the dry goods area will lacking some stuff, but I still managed to find a bunch of stuff I was looking for.

matt aqua life,
I have it on good authority that you are employed at the store this thread is about. That makes any post you make about that store a commercial post.

I went there yesterday, and wow is that place big...Looks like theya are going to have a HUGE freshwater selection... I was amazed. It was like being at that wholesale place that the BAR swap was at. As for the saltwater it looks like it's all going to be in the back in some really large tanks that they were still working on the pluming on just finishing what looked like the last of it it. From what I gathered they will have one tank for sharks and rays, another for softies, one for LPS, and one for SPS, Then there were some smaller (if you could call them small, more of just in relation to the previously mentioned tanks.) I remember one was going to be for Anemones, and another for somethign I can't remember. Then a few more for live rock. They also had a HUGE container for Catalina water. Let me say this again...this place is HUGE....man the overhead costs of this place must be unreal for a fish store....

yea, i was there a bit back when they didn't have any salt water in and this place is going to be nuts, the guy said they wanted to be the "Wall Mart of fish stores" and that their going to have the best selection on the west coast

Bad analogy. To me, Walmart is big with a lot of crappy stuff at low price and poor service.

I agree, not what I would want to compare a LFS to. I was there yesterday and even though they are still very early in the setup, I was greeted when I came in and two or three of the staff asked if I needed any help while I was wandering around. It's going to be a huge job to maintain, Matt will certainly have his hands full.

I hope that the greater Sacramento area can support a store of this size. I would be willing to bet it is the largest store in CA. That said, one thing this store will need to improve on over the old store is improved customer service. If they can do that, they may do well. I just hope it does not come at the expense of the smaller stores we all know and love.

Well - I have heard good things about Matt - the saltwater section manager. He seems really enthusiastic and customer service oriented.

went in today and all I can say is WOW. This store is gonna be amazing....assuming customer service and cleanliness stays top notch.

They had a fair selection of saltwater fish in stock, a handful of live corals, and anemones. The guy I spoke with indicated the salt water section should be well stocked in about 2 more weeks....but I was stoked to see some live corals and fish there already!

BTW, I did buy a light controller/wavemaker there for almost 50% less than I had seen it at another local shop....don't know if we can expect to see this kind of pricing for long but I was pleasantly surprised.

I spoke with an employee when I went. He was telling me that there's like 30+ employees and half no NOTHING!!!

No big suprise though.

I also noticed alot of electrical code violations. Things like sockets hanging down over sumps etc. I also noticed tons of MH ballasts on the floor. Why they weren't above flood level? I don't know.

There was also a nice little flood brewing.... and when I told someone, their response was "not my problem". not yet it isn't ;)

Anyways, the store is big and will have lots of stock. I'm not sure of the quality of stuff though....

I guess I'm still a little jaded from the experience I had at the old exotic when I was brand new to the hobby. I asked what was the best way to run my system? I left there $1000 poorer with a wet/dry, 3 rio 2500's and a berlin skimmer...... now thats quality!

They are still offering the 10% MARS discount. I dropped by there last Saturday at their grand opening and picked up the free bag of IO salt.
