Expected Growth Sequence

What would you say is your experience in growth sequence after gluing an sps frag onto a plug or rockwork? Lets say that all params or ideal in this case. Many have good growth from the tips from the getgo, some not. Many frags encrust first then outward.

In not talking about quick growth here but more what most are experiencing between the initial gluing and growth from the tips. Can you also share the types of sps encrust first then grow and types that both encrust and grow at the same time?

I glued a green slimer frag about a month ago and its still encrusting on the rockwork but no growth from the tips yet but i also glued a digitata and its growing from the tips before encrusting. Have you experienced the same? Im interested to see whats doing out there.

I have three frags of purple bonsai and I am experiencing the same thing. They are all encrusting the frag plug. My oldest one has just shown signs of upward growth but that's after it has fully encrusted the plug. I look forward to what other members experience and if there is any way to promote both upward and encrusting growth.

Im in the process of putting a frag upside down and see if instead of encrusting itll table. So im glueing the frag upside down and see how itbgoes.

Mine are encrusting as well except my green birds nest.... That has tripped in size with very little encrusting.... Although mylillies are branching slowly with little encrusting as well... I am guessing two years to get any good out wood growth based on what I read...

In my experience, birdsnests dont really encrust much at all, though they are the fastest growers for me..

I have had a birdsnest frag for over a year. Zero encrusting but has quadrupled in size so it clearly just depends on the species of coral and that upside down method sounds interesting i would like to know how that works out.

It is quite common for colored stick frags to encrust ("puddle") for months before finally sending up new vertical growth from a nub in the puddle.

it depends alot on placement of the frag IMHO. most corals I place on edges of rocks, encrust just a tiny bit, and then start shooting up branches.
place the same coral on a flat surface, and it will encrust alot more ...

my opinion is, its a survival thing ...
