Experience in reefs with large angels

Hello everyone, I've been looking into attempting to keep some sort of larger species of angelfish in a reef tank that I am planning on setting up. Through researching online, I have seen that some people have had some sort of success with red sea regals, majestics, juvenile imperators, etc. etc. I am planning on rolling the dice, but I want to know which angel may yield the most chance. So the question is, who here have attempted to keep these larger angels in their reefs? What type of angels were they, and how'd they do? I'm just looking for other people's experiences. Also, if you can give your own two cents on what you think my best chance is on what angel. Thanks a lot! :bum:

I've got a 180 with a flame angel, pair of watanabei angels, and a week and a half with a flagfin/threespot. It hasn't messed with anything yet, lots of zoas, lps, sps, no clams.

I've got a juvenile emperor arriving tom. from divers den. I am prepared to pull any lps they start picking on, figuring the red open brain will be the first to go.

Keep me updated on how the emperor is doing with the corals. Im kind of leaning towards getting one of them. Anyone else?

I have had a juvenile emperor in my reef for a 1 yr. So far so good. I think the most important thigh is to make sure you feed tham well. I feed upwards of 3-4 times a day.

I have a large Goldflake which nips my sps occasionally but nothing to serious. However, it still annoys me.
I had a few zoas and an open brain which it destroyed. The zoas were out of control so it didn't bother me.
Gasman - do your angels never nip your sps or do they nip but not cause any damage?

They do once in a while and those corals are usually not healthy from the get go. that has been my experience.;)

male scribbled, emp, melanosoma, and a pair of watanabeis- no probs (aside from zoas- good riddance). If they are pestering the sps, I cant notice, but if they are- let them eat. I dont see and SPS on the wild reefs with PE during the day!!!

Thanks guys. I'm definitely leaning towards a juvenile emperor. Im a big fan of zoas though, hopefully he doesn't decide to go after them down the line.

I have a near adult size emperor in my reef that I have had since she was about half dollar size. She did pick on a brain I put in there, but has been good ever since I removed it. I have had her with numerous softies, zoas, palys, euphyllias and SPS and she has not bothered them. I would recommend you start small, and realize that a nice scolymia or lobo colony is likely not in your future, but there are so many other things you can have.....and only some of them are as beautiful as a large emperor angel.

I have had a blue face in my lps, softie tank for about 9 months now along with a flame angel. The flame bothers nothing and the blue face did nip at a scolymia I had but I moved it to the other side of the tank (I have a 10 footer) where he usually hangs out and has bothering nothing since.

Let me know how it works out cause I am seriously interested in a baby emperor as well, but also desire a tank with corals. mtk1260 can you pm me some pictures of your 1000 shark pond? It sounds really interesting!
