experience with queen angel fish

I saw a beautiful 4 in juvenile in the store the other day and am sorely tempted.

Question is, how fast does this type grow? I know that theorectically it can reach 18in. but if the growth rate is slow then it might do well in my ninety for a few years.

How difficult is it to keep this fish? Do currently available foods that claim to contain sponge provide adequate nourishment?

As far as my experience Queens don't grow very fast and are pretty hardy. Yes currently available foods are more than adequate to sustain them. They can get quite large but most in aquariums don't get above about 12 inches even in really large systems like public aquariums.

I did spot a huge pair of Queen Angels while diving in Bonaire at 140 feet. Biggest Queens I have ever seen, both everybit of 18 inches.

i owned 1 for about a month, before i took it back to the lfs. she was def a queen, she beat up everybody in the tank, and almost killed a vlamingi tang that was twice her size

I had one before, loved her. Very hardy and my favorite fish to this day. I had her in a 125g she was about 3-4 inchs and covered every square millimeter of that tank. I had to downsize to a 75g and felt that was too small for her. I say don't do it until you upgrade. They do get huge though. I don't see the point in getting a fish that you can't keep for life. I'd rather wait until I had the tank/system to hold the queen for the full 20 years, rather then just get rid of it down the line. That's stress on the fish and your attached to her by then, then just give her up, makes no sense to me.

They are pretty but aggressive . Even with diferent species like wrasses and tangs. Mine grows slowly , from 4 in to 4.5 in in 6 months (french angels grows from 1 in to 6 in at same time in lfs fowlr tank at same time) . Juvenile color is fine , but adults are spetacular but harder to adapt to aquarium life.
Mine take flakes, fresh shrimp and clams.
