Experiment in ph

My guess is it is a couple of factors. One being we typically run ac and keep our windows and doors shut. This would lower the o2 levels in the house. My ph runs significantly higher when my family is out of town and my dogs are at the kennel. I am willing to bet climates where people tend to leave windows open have a higher average ph. I would venture that areas closer to sea level would have more o2 in the air and may have higher average ph levels as well.

Using sodium carbonate instead of sodium bicarbonate can help some as well depending on you dosing needs and schedule.

Funny you say that. This summer my family and I went on a two week vacation. Remove the four of us and the dog from the house and I was amazed at how my pH consistently stayed higher. Since I have the APEX and can monitor it through the web, I could still see the dip at night, but not as significant as when we are home. Other than my sister in-law coming in twice a day to feed and briefly take care of things, the home was empty. Another thing to remember is the presence of a gas stove/oven. This can definitely lower O2 levels without a window or two open. Also, here in Sierra Vista we are at about 5000 ft elevation, so O2 is less dense than elsewhere. We're heading out on a week long dive trip here pretty soon so I'll monitor the pH again to see how our absence effects everything.

had my door open today and my ph sits about 8.1 during the day on a normal day, today it was nearly 8.4 and it headed up within 10 mins of having the door open
