Grizzled & Cynical
Ok, I have a strange thing happening in my tank ......

First a bit of background. Tank is a 265 setup about 2 months. Prior tank was a heavily stocked 90 with an oversized sump and fuge. I am using the latter on the bigger tank with all livestock transferred over. Prior 90, a craigslist special, had been in my care for 7 months prior to the upgrade.

All new fish are run through QT and get prazipro. Tangs treated prophylactically for ich, velvet, etc. for 4 weeks and then observed for another eight; all other fish observed for 12 weeks.

All corals and fish in the big DT growing and thriving, except, every now and then the large hippo tang shows some spots. They don't increase, nor have I seen any on any other fish, but they sure look like ich spots to me. I have been seeing them on him, off and on, since I swapped over the tank - so almost 2 months. Cannot get a good picture, but today I see a cluster of white things on his tail fin. Given the propensity of hippos for skin problems, I am thinking that if it were ich, I'd have seen a major breakout by now (plus not sure how ich would have gotten in?) so am thinking lympho.

What do folks think?

Cryptocaryon irritans becomes symptomatic based on stressors present in the system. It's not surprising or unusual for tangs in a newer system. Unless you QT absolutely everything going into the tank that is wet or moist you can not rule ich out.
