External power source for 50D?

Hmmmm, I was picturing having a pretty permanent build going where I didnt have to dissemble the entire battery pack each time... I guess that isnt necessary though.

Thanks for the help, this definitely has me pointing in the right direction.

Hmm - made me think about it a little. Since that cable basically has a BP511 on the end, you might be able to just slip that into your existing Canon charger.

Do you need to supply a constant power supply to the camera or can it lose power for a second or two to change batteries?

:) Been doing some thinking and if you're going to DIY something there might be something even simpler than wiring together your own battery pack. You'd need the cord that was linked at the very start of this page and a spare camera battery charger like this LINK (I've ordered batteries from this place with no complaints).

Take the battery charger, open it up and take out whatever you need to so instead of it being a battery charger its now simply a female battery socket just like your camera has. Take the AC adapter cord, cut it off so you pretty much just have the battery adapter. Wire it up to your new female battery socket and there you go - you now have an external battery socket. :) My battery charger is loose enough that changing out the batteries shouldn't cause any bumping of the camera, and while you're getting the charger you can order a whole pocket full of cheap batteries to swap out.

Just another solution for you to think about.
