External Pump for Mixing station

I am going to be setting up a saltwater mixing station for my reef tank using 2x 32 gallon brute cans.

I want to follow some of the setups i have seen here where external pump recirculates water to mix it but also with a flip of a ball valve can run sw through a hose and fill tank.

I need a pump that wont break the bank, I was looking at a Panworld 40PX. I am wondering if that will be enough power to pump the water about 30-50 feet or will i need more? like the 100px-x?

You should be fine with the 40 as long as the 30-50' isn't straight up. As far as I know horizontal flow doesn't go against head.

nah, its only about 3-4 feet up. But is the 480 gph enough to mix effectively? is it low or overkill?

I think it would be plenty. I've mixed water with a maxi jet. Although a 50pxor 100px may make you feel better. Can always throttle it back too. Pan world makes excellent pumps.

I heard that people are using Reeflo Blowhole pumps for that, they have three different sizes

I use an Iwaki WMD20 rated at 420gph with 14' Max head. It is quiet and has worked very well for the few months I've been running it on my mobile water change cart.

Yea, but I have heard good things about the reeflo's and some really bad things.
Don't really wanna get a pump and have it fail.

i use a mag 18 for mine with 2-55's. little overkill but i had it sitting around.

Probably insane overkill but got a really good deal on Reeflo Blowhole 2700.. So will see how that works.

They have a manual three speed controller on them, I have heard that the problem was the first gen and has been corrected.

Yea, I know about the speed controller, but even on lowest setting its still 1000gph lol.

bump. i am building my station and i have 2x 25 gallon containers and a blueline 30hdx(1100gph). i just want to make sure that i don't melt this pump down because of the low volume of water. on average the pump will be cycling with half that volume or less. and how do you guys with stations run your pump? 15 an hour? 2 hours when salt added??

@OsiViper Since you're using the same Brute Size containers, I WOULD HIGHLY SUGGEST BUILDING YOUR SYSTEM SOMEWHAT LIKE MINE! As far as the pump I went with a PANWORLD PX40 which are only $124.99.

Nice setup. I use a mag 18. Works great for 25 feet.
