I am planning my new set-up and am considering an external return pump from my sump back to the tank to save room for a fuge in my sump. Since I've only used submersible pumps, I was wondering what are the pros and cons of an external return pump. Thanks!
Well, flooding can be more of a concern with an external pump. Heat is not added to your water with an external pump. Just a couple of pros and cons. If I had it to do over again, I would go external.
Flooding is only a concern if you don't glue your plumbing.
I have been running my pumps external from the sump for several years now here at the house with no ill side effects at all. I like it even better now because pump maintenance is so much quicker then before and easier.
I just use a single union ball valve to plumb in the intake.
