Hi all.

Picked up a pair of Extreme Picasso Onyx clownfish.

Can someone explain to be what makes them "Extreme"?

Mmm, not so much, on the picasso's extreme means they have a lot more white markings, or a larger area of white, there is a noticeable difference.
My new picasso's would be onyx extreme grade A picasso's

This was my donisreef picasso, A grade

And this is my new extreme picasso.

And then we could add the smaller male that came from doni here that was called a "snowcasso" just to add some confusion!
I "think" was her label of basically what we are calling extreme, but each breeders clowns will have a somewhat noticeable pattern distinct to them, I can usually tell when a pair of picasso's originated from doni(who is no longer breeding)

Huh, I guess I'm not allowed to call doni's male what it is on here??
Anyway, add casso after the word that means EXTREME cold rain in the form of that white stuff that sometimes falls from the sky and that would be the name of that!

In your case it means your clowns have most of their body white and what would normally be orange will actually turn black due to "Onyx" lineage.
Extreme means more white, but not all white.
Example: extreme Picasso has body with lots of white on it mixed with orange/black. All white Picasso would actually be called a Platinum for lack of orange on its body except face and fins. Same with extreme snowflake. Tons of white but still some orange. All white snowflake would pretty much be called a Wyoming White.

Woops trying again with pictures...

..... and in 6 months they'll be Super Extreme Picasso Onyx Clownfish. We live in world of absurd hyperbole. FWIW, the tendency for people to modify every statement with the word 'super' is really annoying.

I think "ultra" irritates me more. Lol.
Ultra chalice. Ultra coral beauty. Ultra bubble tip anemone.

I agree on the hype and terms, and also agree ultra bothers me more because that really does not describe anything, and while I'm not crazy about labels and grades and such, it's a necessary evil sometimes especially for online sales, and the extreme's are obviously different in appearance to me compared to regular picasso's.
