Grandis.
A. Grandis I wish we could have nice zoas like those in HI!
More question:
How old is the system?
What is the liquid on top of the tank (pic.#15)? Liquid food?
How often do you feed?
How old is the oldest colony?
Very nice!!!!
Yeap that would be a very good ZTOTM.
Grandis.
Thanks Grandis! Hope this helps:
Feeding- I Used to broadcast feed large amounts of food at night time but since upgrading to the larger reef I have retired that method for the much simpler "Fish Poop" method. The reef still gets a night feeding every so often but a majority of nutrients for the zoas come from the 40+ fish that are fed 3-6 times daily.
Lighting- I have two 3 X 150W fixtures installed, halides are 12K and supplementation is provided by 4 80W Actinics/ 4 96W Actinic PC's (Both fixtures have moon lights as well).
Water Changes- Usually around 10-15% monthly
Skimmer- Vertex insump 280
Dipping/ Q- Thorough visual inspection accompanied by a coral RX dip, I don't quarantine fish or coral.
Carbon and GFO- Carbon every month, GFO every 3-4 Months both are run in a BRS filter.
Do you think the Mangroves/DSB does any different?
Lots of controversy over the use of a DSB, regardless if it works to eliminate nutrients (Which I guarantee you it does) it still looks wicked and is PACKED with life. In addition its the perfect place to raise baby bangii's!
The system is just over 2 months old now but is comprised of two year plus reefs transferred into one.
The food container contains fish food (Mysis, Brine and home made goodies).
Fish are fed 3-6 times daily and I feed an incredible amount each time, I'm a strong believer that a healthy system is one with a great deal of nutrient turn over and the fastest way to do this is through feeding.
The oldest colony is a brown zoanthid frag I purchased around 5 years ago, it has survived to this day but I tend to over look it. It's gone through 6 tank transfers and been fragged many a time, I still have the original frag plug though :lol2:.
rysher what are your tank dimension and the lighting?
those are nice pics for a change!
72"L X 36"W X 22"H, lighting above. Thanks for the comment!
