Fact of Fabel?

RockinSmall

Keepin it Spicey
I've heard this before and thought it was silly and recently heard it again. A kid that works at an lfs around here said there enormously overgrown mushroom tank was the result of him putting a few shrooms in a blendor and pouring them into the display and that is how there are thousands of mushrooms in there. Wouldnt a blendor be a bit too much?? =) or has this been a true method of increasing mushroom growth?

I think that it is fabel. But it may hold some truth, because I have absolutely mutilated mushrooms by accident and a few different ones came back.

I also had an rose anemone go down my overflow, and three weeks later I found like 3 rose anemones in my sump tank.

But then again who puts mushrooms in a blender, ahaha.

I knew someone who did this years ago with success, my attempts to do it met with soupy goo and parasitic protozoans eating the mess.

I stick with fresh razor blades now.

Fact: It can be done and sprout new shrooms if a peice of the mouth is still present. So a few pieces will survive

It's abusive to the coral and should not be practiced IMO
Also it's likely the shroom will grow back deformed or with scar lines

you don't need a mouth to prop almost all Discosoma shrooms. I generally use pedal laceration (foot cutting) to prop them nowadays. if they stick a toe out, I slice it. :)

true I also frag that way wasn't thinking of that
with that said what "type" of shroom do you intend to blend up

it was the purple/blue discosomas that the dude I know blended up with success, I tried using the same shrooms but got the goo.

that was back in the early-mid 90's. I haven't tried it again.

Just slice them up like a pizza into 8-10 pieces thru the mouth. It works with ricordea as well.

i really just wanted to see if this lfs kid was fulla ****... i mean there were literally a couple thousand and he said he had nly done it a year ago....

I read a thread where the guy put them in and just hit the 'pulse' button a few times and it worked well. Just don't overblend. :)

I've seen a demo of this, and it can work.

You do not want to puree, and usually a food processor will work better than a blender. A couple quick pulses to chop it up into numerous small pieces, not liquid, then pour into a low water flow tank.

no whisperer it's fact, you guys search theres a fairly long thread on this about a year ago. like the posters above you want them chopped not blended

Putting a shroom in a blendor is a fabel. For sure. :)
wrong have done it. I have since found that a more effictive way is to tightly tie it downm with chees cloth it makes the mush rock more uniform where all you see is mush nor\ rock
