The first thing I noticed is the article was from the Fall of 2000.
Thats false so-called global warming has caused less damage to reefs then the el Ninio effect and mass over tourisim. Hell Ive seen more corals die to being trampled and kicked then anymount of weather change. Even during mass bleachings they only lasted about a day or two at least in the carribean where I have seen it.
I will tell you whats worst. Algae blooms that compleatly somother reefs in a slimey clould caused by fertilizer and sewage.
Their both just as bad but the GBW thing is hyped over the max.

there is a complex mathmatical equation, basically think of a graph, you know when you draw a line at zero, draw a flat line to the right and increase the slope (upwards) by a greater angle each interval, resulting in basically a vertical line. All that meaning each year the world warms up by a much larger number
or think of it like this, 2 rabbits make 2 more, those four make 8, those make 16..... eventually it increases drastically..... 512 makes 1024
the heat builds on itself, and the world can only cool off so much each year.
